#EDU6323 Re. AR/VR - I liked Lam's presentation the best; David Rapien's was a little bit of a sales pitch but his points were well taken; screens can now become an augmented reality. Sure why not take the next step and require google cardboard for classwork? Looks affordable?
@Mlevesque_45 I think travel is one excellent way to use VR/AR in the classroom. This adds a lotof value to study of let's say ancient monuments such as Stonehendge or the Acropolis.
@Mlevesque_45 @EgleSlezas I think that Polls may be more effective than longer games; I am beginning to think shorter interactivity is better overall. Like pilates vrs yoga.
#EDU6323 Digital polling can impact motivation through its chunking ability - small short-questioned polls or surveys helps deliver information in also socialized "related" way (Miller, SDT characteristics)
@eliza_stern Yes! I remember that she said that. I almost wrote it down but there was a lot to take in. She was practically the only person I think who mentioned creativity as a component of education (that I can recall) in the videos. Other than Sir Ken.
#EDU6323 I suspect motivation and good habits still are the factors that connect students to a good education - a little self reliance, a lot good teachers. 3
#EDU structures. The trends of online learning and more heightened digital learning in the arenas of VR sort of fit my education vision for the future, but, I believe that the expenses of new technology must be accessible by all in order to be a fair and motivating factor. 2
#EDU re trends question; I think there will always be a view of education – conveying information and content from one who has advanced through such stages to become a person of directive to those who are beginning to immerse themselves in new content and ideas and mathematical 1
#EDU6323 What surprises me in the recently released NMC Horizon Report is how convinced the panel is that education will change so radically in the future. It probably will, but the core of education, learning from a source, I still think that remains?
#EDU6323 Kelly; "the mesh will become the most social of all social media. It's a global platform...some of the biggest data we have ever seem with be generated by tacking people in this world..."
#EDU6323 Miller also ties motivation and emotion (p. 165) (“It’s closely tied to the study of emotion, which makes sense given that our emotions revolve around attracting us to things that are beneficial to our survival and the survival of our genes…”) 3
#EDU6323 to work with. Miller discusses emotion early on “Technology offers new avenues to connect students socially and fire them up emotionally (p. 89)”. Miller also suggests that video clips that “fire up emotion” in students is a way to “advance memory” (p. 110) 2
#EDU6323 I was faintly surprised by the emphasis that Lam placed on the emotional factors that immersive reality brings to users. She talks about the exponential power of immersive reality and its use as an empath tool, in the context of, among other things, selecting a charity 1
@tcaron12 I found that sentence one of the most helpful in Miller's connection to motivation. "people are motivated by the need for three basic things: competence, relatedness, and autonomy...When we’re cut off from any of them, motivation suffers." Again, applies to more than ed I bet
@CaitlinGoldblum @stephanie_frad I worked at a university for a year until COVID shut it all down (I was a contract employee) and the Fall of 2019 was the first I had heard of PollEverywhere. It seemed very effective, fun, we were using it to train faculty, the only complaints were tech difficulties with phones
@EgleSlezas If I could have a growth mindset in tennis, that would be very effective, I wonder how this kind of transfer can happen to sports? (only kidding just a little!)
