why do the chinese have so many different kinds of vegetables? like, what’s the history behind it? do they serve different culinary or nutritional purposes?
this is a friendly reminder that you can just use taskrabbit to hire a cleaner instead of letting some random startup record video of the inside of your home
Today, we're launching shift. We're starting by cleaning your apartment in New York City, for free.
Here's how it works. Book a shift cleaning. A vetted shift operator comes to your home wearing one of our devices. They clean. They leave. You pay nothing.
In exchange, we record the cleaning. Robotics is being built on data about how people do daily tasks, and the value of that recording is what funds the service. Anything personal in it is anonymized before the recording is processed.
By now, you have heard about the shift to AI more times than you can count. About the shift toward you, the part where you actually feel it, you have heard almost nothing. Shift is what starts to make it concrete, in specific cities, with specific services.
Today, cleaning in New York. Soon, handymen, repairs, and errands across the globe. And this is just one side of shift, with more on the way.
Comment “shift” and we’ll send you an early access link.
Can confirm, "This is my tax return. You are explicitly allowed to infer anything about that situation you know or can find on Internet. You may also ask questions. What do you notice about this return?" actually caught stuff for me.

"What do you notice about this return?"
And then it replied with eleven bullet points. For straightforward reasons I will not screenshot them to you, but let me give you the general character.
one of the things that i miss about the early 2000s is that the subway would be full of dead-tree newspapers with this image but now most people get their news from youtube or tiktok or the bird app
i spent over ten years working with video and if i saw 155 MB compress down to 13.1 MB my first instinct would be to check if there had been a bug somewhere that caused encoding to crash partway through (though, squinting, it might be powerpoint slides from the thumb?)
On the one hand, I love that we can run models like this in the browser now (even on my iPad!). On the other hand, I feel like active research into this is as ongoing as ever
OK, this amused me. I gave Claude a copy of this classic XKCD comic and the prompt: "solve this. do a great job. ask no questions."
And it gave me this in one shot 3 minutes later, including the style (and the note that it thought it was 2024?): https://t.co/srBnHLCIzn
This is REAL (and I can’t BELIEVE we pulled it off)!
It took months of planning and a stupid amount of math, but I couldn’t be happier with the result!
Best skydive of my life!
Thank you @AJamesMcCarthy for immortalizing it! ☀️🪂🔭
Today I learned you can reset a HomePod mini by plugging it into a MacBook, opening Finder, and clicking "Restore HomePod". I just had to find the pop-under window to accept the required software update to do the restore.
@eikedrescher it seems like the game creation breaks if the display goes to sleep or the app gets backgrounded— rough given that for me on an iPhone 16 Pro it’s easily 3-5 mins to go from prompt to game and O(minutes) to make changes. really cool though, reminds me of early glitch
@natsaulia are you thinking like a board game or like a smartwatch? because the latter afaik requires flying to shenzhen (for example, ericmigi bringing back Pebble) https://t.co/ANcJZp5zN7
Congrats to @andyzhang and the @windsurf_ai team on the launch! Windsurf is definitely one of the IDEs reach for every day in my day-to-day work @FractionalAI .
