@arpit_bhayani I think itโs the way it is taught and the motivation (interviews) that makes it less interesting.
But if you start coupling every topic with its actual use cases, it actually makes you think differently.
@SumitM_X Second one is called implicit join. The results will be exactly same.
If I donโt consider execution plan and think logically, the difference is first will be using the condition while joining but the second first execute cross join and then apply where condition.
@arpit_bhayani Yes. And interesting thing is the more deeper you go the better your basics will become. And eventually everything is just basics.
Did a similar deep dive in mysql filesort.
I was digging through MySQL internals the other night and hit a curious thing: Using filesort.
Iโve seen it in query plans for years โ never gave it much thought.
So I pulled the source.
Turns out itโs not one algorithm, but a smart orchestration of many.๐๐งต
If this made you look at ORDER BY differently, retweet the first post.

7. Why should you care?
Because every time you write ORDER BY, youโre triggering all this.
Understanding filesort helps you write faster queries, design better indexes, and avoid disk IO surprises in production.
