Pakistani PM Sharif proposes mediation; Trump shares offer on Truth Social
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday shared on Truth Social a post by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offering to mediate talks between Washington and Tehran, as efforts intensify to end the Middle East conflict.
Sharif said Pakistan “welcomes and fully supports ongoing efforts to pursue dialogue to end the war in the Middle East” and is ready to host negotiations, subject to agreement by both the United States and Iran.
“Pakistan stands ready and honoured to be the host to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict,” he wrote on social media platform X.
Pakistan’s foreign office said Islamabad remained committed to resolving the crisis through diplomacy, adding that some aspects of engagement are pursued quietly.
The development comes as Pakistan has emerged as a potential intermediary in indirect contacts between the United States and Iran, though no formal agreement on talks has been confirmed.
Iran has publicly denied that direct negotiations are underway, while U.S. officials have signalled that discussions are taking place through intermediaries amid escalating military tensions in the region.
Trump’s amplification of Sharif’s offer highlights growing efforts by Pakistan to open diplomatic channels and prevent further escalation of the conflict.

MAJOR BREAKING:
Diplomatic push in Pakistan: US-Iran officials to meet in Islamabad
In a major development amid the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran, contacts have been made for a meeting between senior Iranian and American officials in Islamabad, Pakistan, later this week, credible diplomatic sources told The Punch exclusively.
The sources said US Vice President Vance is being considered as the senior American representative for the talks. They added that the US is already holding negotiations with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, who could represent Iran in the upcoming Islamabad meetings.
Pakistan’s mediation efforts reflect its longstanding ties with both Washington and Tehran, and come as President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause in U.S. strikes on Iranian power infrastructure to create space for dialogue.
According to the sources, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marsh Asim Munir talked to Trump on Sunday followed by a call by Pakistan’s Prime Minister to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to de-escalate tensions.
According to the sources, Israel was aware of mediation efforts by several countries aimed at launching US-Iran talks but was surprised by President Donald Trump’s statement that contacts are advancing and that there could be agreements on 15 points.
Earlier, President Trump announced a five-day pause on planned strikes against Iranian power infrastructure, creating a potential window for diplomatic engagement. The move follows heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where U.S. threats against Iranian facilities had raised fears of escalation.
Analysts said the pause could ease volatility in global oil markets and open the door for negotiations facilitated by international mediators, including Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan. The planned Islamabad meeting is seen as a critical step in these efforts.
Turkey, which was involved in mediation efforts before the war, has also been talking to Iranian officials and Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff. Pakistan’s foreign minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Monday. Egypt’s foreign minister Badr Abdelatty also spoke to his Iranian and Pakistani counterparts on Sunday, as well as Witkoff and Qatar’s foreign minister.
