In 1989, in the small village of Miyakoji, Japan, primary school teacher Yumi Tanaka made a peculiar discovery as she looked into the toilet bowl β a floating black shoe. Investigating further, she found a man's body in the sewer tank outside.
The body was removed and found to be in an unusual position, somehow the man managed to squeeze through the 14" diameter septic opening. It was later determined that he had entered the waste tank, likely attempting to peer up the toilet when women were using it.
After meticulous cleaning, the body was identified as 26-year-old Naoyuki Kanno. He likely passed away from hypothermia.
