The glass tube-like structure on the Holland Park Roundabout is the Thames Water Ring Main Tower, a 50-foot (15-meter) high architectural column built as a giant decorative barometer. When it was built in 1994 to mark the completion of the London Ring Main, the clear glass column was designed to display colored liquid that would rise and fall with atmospheric pressure to indicate local weather changes. The structure is topped with communication equipment and antennae, functioning as an unorthodox mobile phone and radio mast.
