MERCY TUESDAY
(Psalm 40:1-2)
I waited, I waited for the Lord; he bent down and heard my cry. He drew me out of the dangerous pit, from the miry clay. He settled my feet upon a rock and established my steps.
Prayer for Mercy:
Loving Father, teach my heart to be patient when answers seem delayed. Establish my steps in Your will and help me to trust that Your timing is perfect and Your plans are good. When I feel weary, renew my strength with hope. Let me wait with peace, believe with courage, and rejoice knowing that You never fail. Amen.
Jesus, I trust in you !
Affirmations:
Mercy has remembered me !
Mercy has spoken for me !
Mercy has responded for me !

WHAT IS DELAYING THE CANONIZATION OF BLESSED TANSI?
Following the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed PierGiorgio Frassati yesterday in Rome, many Nigerians have been asking an important question: when will our own Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi, beatified twenty-six years ago in 1998, be canonized?
Some have even gone as far as suggesting that if Tansi were a Westerner, he would already have been canonized. To them, his African origin is what is delaying the process. But is this really the case?
The truth is that canonization in the Catholic Church is never a matter of race, politics, or sentiment. It is a process. The Church, in her wisdom, has always approached sainthood with seriousness, guided by the conviction that saints are models of holiness for the universal Church. That is why the process of canonization is long, rigorous, and spiritual.
The process generally follows four main stages. First, one is declared a Servant of God, when the cause for canonization is officially opened in the local diocese of the person, usually after five years of the person’s death except in a case of martyrdom or other exceptions. Next comes Venerable, when the Church recognizes that the person lived a life of heroic virtue.
Then follows Beatification, which requires the recognition of at least one miracle obtained through the candidate’s intercession. The miracle has to be reported, documented, medically reviewed, and judged inexplicable by scientific experts before being discerned as miracles. After beatification, the title Blessed is given. The final step is Canonization, which normally requires a second miracle confirmed by designated experts, after which the person is officially declared a saint of the universal Church.
Blessed Tansi has already gone through the first three stages. What is left is the last step: canonization. And for that to happen, the Church awaits a confirmed miracle through his intercession after his beatification.
So, if we sincerely and objectively ask the question, “What is holding Tansi’s canonization?”, the answer is not the Vatican. We are the ones delaying it. Why? Because miracles are not manufactured; they are received as gifts from God through intercession. And for miracles to happen, the faithful must pray with faith. It is only when we pray through the intercession of Blessed Tansi that God may grant the miracle needed for his canonization.
Let us also keep in mind that the length of the causes of saints can vary. Some causes take centuries (Joan of Arc died in 1431 and canonized in 1920); others move quickly (some modern causes like those of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Saint Pope John Paul II were completed in decades). The length of time says nothing about the reality of holiness - only about the particular circumstances, evidence, and pastoral prudence of each cause.
Let us stop political speculation and do the simple, necessary work: cultivate devotion, pray through Blessed Tansi’s intercession, publish testimonies of help received, and send those testimonies to the local postulation so they can be investigated and approved for his canonization.
May Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi continue to intercede for us🙏🏿
