Former New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) operator Justin Conaglen was killed in Africa only weeks after leaving the New Zealand Defence Force.

The NZDF confirmed he went on leave without pay in March 2026 and formally released in August. He was reported to have moved into private security, and later accounts claim he was killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, specifically in North Kivu.

Unconfirmed reports circulating this week also tie him to former UFC fighter and US Army Green Beret Tim Kennedy, alleging Conaglen was killed in the same Congo ambush in which Kennedy was reportedly shot multiple times. New Zealand authorities are still seeking the circumstances of his death.

Before leaving the military he had taken an unusual path into the NZSAS from the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and built a reputation as an endurance athlete. He finished the Taupo 100km ultramarathon in 13 hours 46 minutes in 2020 and also climbing Nepal’s Tukuche Peak in 2023 as a solo expedition member.

His death comes amid heavy attrition in the NZSAS as experienced operators are drawn into high-risk private security work.

Rest easy, Justin.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 Russian soldier grabs a Ukrainian drone from mid air, shows the finger to the drone operator and throws it away so it blows.

It depends on the trigger system the drone has, often there are two wires that need to touch for it to go off, so such a drone can actually be grabbed like this. Ice cold … bro.

The Taliban spot US Special Forces and move into position to ambush them.

Little do they know two AH-64D Apache Gunships spot them first and let it rip on their platoon sized group.

Mess with the best. End like the rest.

NEW: Santa Clara County DA clears officer who fatally shot man actively stabbing roommate with kitchen knife

On April 7, 2026, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office officially cleared Officer Robert Allsup in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Nizamuddin Mohammed.

The incident occurred on September 3, 2025, when Mohammed had kicked in a bathroom door and was actively stabbing his roommate with a large kitchen knife.

Officer Allsup made a crisis entry and found Mohammed pinning the victim to the floor with the knife at his throat.

After giving multiple commands to drop the weapon, Allsup fired four shots when Mohammed moved the knife toward the victim’s throat.

The DA determined the use of lethal force was justified and lawfully necessary to save the roommate’s life.

The victim survived multiple stab wounds.

No drugs or alcohol were found in Mohammed’s system..

🇺🇦💪😭Medics found a note in the bag of a fallen soldier — it wasn’t addressed to his family, but to his dog.
For several months, military drones circling above the front line had captured glimpses of an incredible friendship amid the ruins. Frame after frame showed the soldier sharing his meager rations and warmth with a stray dog who refused to leave his side.
When a massive attack finally took the soldier’s life, medics found him exactly where the drone had last recorded him.
Inside his jacket was a handwritten note — not to his parents, but a request for help for his friend. It read:
“We’ve been fighting together for two years. If I’m gone, please leave my jacket in my dugout — winter is coming soon, and he’ll come there to keep warm.
P.S. If you manage to catch him, he likes it when you scratch behind his ears.”
