I used to be a nationalist.. I realised that race is only a problem if you make it one.. like most things..

@goodforharriers @CitizenAnalyst for the record, people in the west-country aren't foreigners to me because they belong to a different ethnic group.. it's because we have cultural differences.. I'm always surprised by how different people are from different cities in England.. even West London seems alien to me

@RWterrorist @CitizenAnalyst I don't mean to argue that "Scottish" doesn't exist.. I just don't agree with you that it's to do with ethnicity, they're not a single ethnic group. It's the relationship to the state, and to people from outside of Scotland, that defines it

it's a losing battle to "preserve" culture.. look at music, has it stayed the same? Fashion? Values? Philosophy? It isn't changed from outside, it changes itself

most people in the UK don't have anything against people from "outside" ethnic groups. Most people have no "historical stake" either, they're concerned about food, shelter, family, things like that you know?

@RWterrorist @CitizenAnalyst I would argue that culture is living, over periods of time it changes. The nationalist image of Scotland (freedom, William Wallace and all that), only adapts to these changes. The message remains the same: "I, the state, am the people"

@RWterrorist @CitizenAnalyst no, no. If you knew Scotland you'd know that Glasgow and Edinburgh are *very* different cities. In the Highlands places don't even speak the same language

And as pointed out in the article I sent you, they don't share an ethnic group

@RWterrorist @CitizenAnalyst ..and therefore, as most people born here share these things, an "English Muslim" is no less at home than someone with Anglo-Saxon genes.. most people don't care about ethnicity anymore. You'll notice (in England at least) the people who hate on Muslims, don't know any

@RWterrorist @CitizenAnalyst but it isn't our ethnicity that we subscribe to, it's our cultural group, common way of life, values. To me the most important factor seems to be language (we have a lot of different dialects/slangs)
