We are going to miss our student teacher, Julia Mackel, but I know she is going to be a great addition to Dunlap HS next school year. Another fabulous IL teacher from @IllinoisStateU!

[Miss Mackel @MackelMiss]

@NDOWUnmask I fear hiding my emotions and in-the-moment feelings with students--whether it is a reaction to something in the world, in my life, or in a text. It's important to uncover our truths with students so they can share theirs with us and in their writing #NDOWUNMASK #WhyIWrite

[ISU ENG 297, Fall 2020 @NDOWUnmask]

When we unmask our teacher selves we let our students see who we WERE as students and who we ARE as lifelong learners...what can we achieve by showing our students this perspective? #NDOWUnmask #WhyIWrite

[Miss Mackel @MackelMiss]

@NDOWUnmask A lot of the time, my writing is based on my personal experiences and perspectives, but sometimes I think it's interesting to put myself in the perspective of other people and write something from an entirely different point of view #NDOWUNMASK #WhyIWrite

[Miss Mackel @MackelMiss]

@NDOWUnmask A lot of my writing is humorous, which I think is an extension of my personality. Other times, I've noticed that it can be easier to write with a more serious tone. I love seeing how diverse my writing can be because it demonstrates how complex identity is #NDOWUNMASK #WhyIWrite

[Miss Mackel @MackelMiss]

@misshatchel @NDOWUnmask I had always struggled with seeing myself as a writer, and my creative nonfiction class helped me recognize myself as a writer even when I don't think I am being one! I learned that even drafting something down as a list is a form of writing:) #NDOWUnmask #WhyIWrite

[Miss Mackel @MackelMiss]

@NDOWUnmask I think "unmasking" our writing allows us to uncover and discover unique and personal parts about ourselves/ our lives. Practicing lifelong writing is a great way to learn something new about ourselves each and every day #NDOWUnmask #WhyIWrite
