Women and girls are disproportionately affected by sexual exploitation.

Globally, it is estimated 97%-99% of victims of sexual exploitation are female.

My recent report on sex-for-sale websites found 59% of adverts showed multiple indicators linked to possible exploitation.

On #InternationalWomen’sDay, it’s a reminder that exploitation can occur in plain sight online. The Government and online platforms must ensure these sites cannot be used to facilitate sexual exploitation and trafficking.

That why I’m calling on the Government to launch a formal public consultation into these websites and ban them for under 18s.

Funded by the Scottish Government, this pilot offers access to specialist debt advisers who provide confidential, trauma-informed support through Dundee Women’s Aid and West Lothian Women’s Aid.

The service can help with coerced public and private debt, negotiating with creditors, exploring statutory debt solutions, and signposting to benefits advice and other relevant services.

Running until March 2026, the pilot is available to women in Dundee or West Lothian who have been affected by economic and/or financial abuse. To access support, you can contact your local Women’s Aid service directly:
