I wish Coates would have asked Klein what it means when someone continuously petitions for their side to sacrifice and move closer to their opponents while their opponents pull further away while consolidating power. Seems like that’s a hostage situation more than a compromise.
I am grateful to Ezra Klein for demonstrating over & over how liberals got us here. Constantly throwing away principles and oppressed people to appeal to the right. Constantly coming around to an issue too late & only after you’ve helped destroy the opposition. He’s a case study.
The thesis of One Battle After Another is this: Fascists may have all the power and artillery at their disposal, but it's in service of absolutely nothing. Regular people, for all their shortcomings, have something they'll never be able to obtain - life and love.
It is not healthy when a political party loses multiple elections and yet the same politicians, consultants & aides get to keep their jobs for 30 years as if everything is fine. That’s no longer a political party — that’s a country club with lifetime membership privileges.
