As an amillenial partial preterist for two decades, I saw a lot of these too, because I was convinced of an individual biological resurrection at the end of all time… it’s in the creeds after all.
But i am sola scriptura and someone challenged me about two year ago to dig into the original language to find it in the text (ironically a spiritual resurrection partial preterist IIRC). They said, “just remember, your flesh doesn’t want to die”. That statement worked within my hermeneutic at the time. So I took the challenge to do all I could to resist my presuppositions and approach resurrection with fresh eyes. I couldn’t find flesh and bone resurrection anywhere.
Once that was gone, I saw every one of those (and many other) passages differently. Especially Daniel 12 + Leviticus 26:19 where the judgement and resurrection are inextricably tied to the fall of the temple.
I was safe and warm in the theological consensus until my search for physicality broke the spell.
I appreciate the friendly engagement. Happy to dig in more if you’d like. Otherwise, peace brother! May your evening be chill.
Acts 10.
I'm a little confused by what you've said. Do you mind answering the following so I can better understand where you're coming from:
Do you think non-believers are without a conscience?
Do you think the Holy Spirit informs/leads the believers conscience?
And can you define how you're understanding the word conviction so we're on the same page about the definition?
It’s also anyone that can do that - Christian or not. Anyone can read it and interpret it how they want. Even EO. Not even their supposed apostolic succession creates uniform agreement. Hence the schism with the RCC that make the exact same claims. Not even within EO do they have uniformity.
@nathancoxey@5SolasMissy The distinction is “the law”, “the sin”, “the death” spoken of in the text. Too often the definite article, and the lack thereof, is ignored and creates translations that miss this important cue.
@MrFluferMufin@paleochristcon@LizzieMarbach Happy to be corrected.
You said Jesus didn’t create, then that it’s the same God who was there at the beginning. How does that square with “all things were made through him?”
@parousia70@D17691611@YoungRichie75 My guess is he a new EO convert trying to strut his Andrew Wilson… like a kids that just took his floaties off and got in over his head really fast. 😉
@Slaying7Sin@nathancoxey I can kind of see where you’re coming from.
What do you think of the cloth with animals being let down three times to Peter? What about the thorn in Paul’s side to keep him from conceit? You don’t see those as examples of conviction?
