In the quiet expanse of the grassland, a Watercock stands perfectly still, its dark, laterally flattened body blending seamlessly into the surrounding reeds. Only the subtle, deliberate turn of its head and the slow blinking of its eyes betray its presence. This secretive marsh bird, usually known for its loud, gulping calls at dawn and dusk, seems entirely frozen in time as it patiently surveys its wetland domain.
