@zachschu1 I do enjoy them. At times it can be a bit concerning, as something I just got done looking at on one app shows up in an ad on another app, however I do think it’s helpful and is a great tool for companies to sell to their targeted audience. #UWJ201 #311
@ally_wang4 The platform I see with the most ads is definitely Instagram. Every few minutes I see a different company advertising something. I think they’re effective for both myself and others. I know many people who will click on the ad and see what they’re selling. #UW201 #311
@NicolePerla3 I think it would be important for companies to focus on both simultaneously, however to chose just one, I think the peripheral persuasion is most beneficial because companies care about the afterthoughts of the audience. #UWJ201 #311
@kahn_maggie I think that manipulation can sometimes be a word that comes with negative connotation. In this sense, I think emotional manipulation is definitely present, and was intended to pursuance viewers. The emotion was used as an aid to gain greater audience connection. #UWJ201 #311
@sophiefriedberg I do think that skeptical knowing is used in everyday life like, when choosing what news to watch, which to trust, and if anything is missing. Journalists probably follow it much more strictly, however I see it in my daily life too. #UWJ201 #311
@SondgerothCody An example of this that I’ve seen most often is when journalists pull tweets to use in their stories. I think it does a poor job representing the public opinion as a whole, as it is just one persons tweet. #UWJ201 #311
@ellese_martin I personally don’t think there will be a huge change in the future, as plenty of opinions can be discussed on social media. When discussions turn harmful, that is when people are deplatformed. I think as long as deplatforming isn’t overused, things won’t change. #UWJ201 #311
@EmiliaW91167202 I personally think that although private universities have the ability to stop freedom of speech/ expression, they don’t because they realize how important it is. I think we would hear more about it on the news if these universities were doing more to stop it. #UWJ201 #311
Based on Professor Culver’s lecture today, do you think that all universities (public or private) should be able to step in during serious cases of hate speech? #UWJ201 #311
@GabrielleWatry This is a hard question to answer because I do think that all opinions are valid and important, however the bias in the media contributes to a more divided nation. It’s tough to really say if opinion sections are worth this divide. #UWJ201 #311
@emma34130349 I think an example of both the alarm and patrol model could be the BLM protests from over the summer. At first, it came across as an alarm model because it wasn’t necessarily expected, but as it continued, it became more of a patrolled report. #UWJ201 #311
Professor Wagner mentioned today in lecture that balance is an important standard of journalism. Because of this, I see conservative and liberal views represented, but not any others. Do you think that the media should do a better job representing more ideas? #UWJ201 #311
Freshman @parker__johnson delivered two hits including a game-tying single in the ninth on Friday in @ValpoBaseball's 5-4 setback at Jacksonville State.

@pete_bevington I think a major reason for this is because of the culture here in Madison, and how young the community is. Often, younger people rely on social media much more than any other kind of media just because of how easy it is to access. #UWJ201 #311
@EricksonMakenna At home I’m able to watch TV programs and various news platforms, but at college I don’t have access to that so I turn to social media instead. This can be hard because social media is generally less trustworthy than news programs. #UWJ201 #311
@LucySpeers5 I think that the biggest reason for success in the article was because people got to see eachother as more than just someone who disagrees with them. The personal connection contributed to the positive outcome, and I think an article wouldn’t really have that. #UWJ201 #311
@smcrane8 I think it’s hard to even say if the media could do something to change this, as we learned people think something is biased whenever it doesn’t go with what they believe. Maybe it would come down to all of us being more open to other perspectives. #UWJ201 #311
@HerlingLily I think people post on social media for many different reasons, but one being to prove to themselves and others that they are taking action in an issue or that they care. I think that when you see other people posting something, you feel like you should as well. #UWJ201 #311
@Olivia44581544 The super extreme viewpoints from each political party is what truly causes this. People tend to argue with those that oppose them. Instead, we should focus on what parts of the other argument we can agree with and try to come to more moderate grounds. #UWJ201 #311
@MayaZuckermann I definitely think that it has played a role in the divide of our nation. People often want to hear things that benefit them and also satisfy them and selective exposure from the media will cause those with certain views to listen to others with those same views. #UWJ201 #311
