@Cheyenne20512 Agreed! Not only did she become one with the spirits, but I also feel like she became one with herself. She found her confidence, power, and what was truly important to her. #engl20512
As a whole, I have enjoyed 'Shadowshapers' however it was hard to follow at times. I think the ending brought together Sierra and all her relationships with her family and friends, and pulled all the chaos together. #engl20512
@paytonchandle11 I think this is the perfect description of the moral/lesson of this novel. Sierra's true self was able to evolve throughout the book, and it is very clear her confidence in herself! #engl20512
@Eng205Lily YES I feel like those murals may not always be noticed or appreciated as much as they should be! There's always a story behind each mural, and more people should take time to admire and learn about them. #engl20512
I have enjoyed reading 'Shadowshapers' so far. The detail that is in the book regarding fantasy is very intriguing to read and follow. I also think the author is providing great emphasis on breaking down the stereotypes of heroes in book and adding great diversity. #engl20512
@Michael66858486 I think you make a great point...anyone from any background can make a difference. This is important to remember in not just literature, but also in other media forms. We need to break away from the stereotypes created about heroes and villains. #engl20512
@SophDugan23 Alot of books use trauma to define the lives of Black minorities. However, trauma doesn't define their life experiences! Diversity in books, as well as diversity in the experiences of those being written about, is crucial! #engl20512
@BrookeJoyTV Agree! I am very intrigued to see how fantasy and social injustice is intertwined and interpreted by readers. Based on the articles I've read about Older's writing, it seems as he does a great job at combining the two for a very eye-opening reading. #engl20512
I think art is unique way to address social issues and injustices. I am excited to read 'Shadowshaper' and see how the author is able to intertwine these important topics, which need to be addressed in society, into urban fantasy literature. #engl20512
This statement in McKinney's article about the commodification of Black pain really stood out to me. Why does pain and trauma have to happen in order for people to realize the importance of treating EVERYONE with respect and dignity? #engl20512
@BrookeJoyTV Agreed... Everyone handles grief differently, but getting revenge, especially through taking a life, is never the right thing to do. Will's elavator ride with the people that meant a lot to him helped him really feel through the pain he was going through. #engl20512
@paytonchandle11 The illustrations only emphasize the emotions in the scene and of the characters. Without the pictures, I don't think the emotion and meaning would be portrayed as well and in depth as it is. #engl20512
Taking a life for a life is never the right way to go about grief, especially if you're taking the life of an innocent person. Will begins to understand that these "rules" don't have to be rules. It's doing more harm than justice... and it will not take away his grief. #engl20512
@SophDugan23 I agree! I think the images tell the story, and the words only help understand it. The graphics are what bring out the emotions while reading! #engl20512
@JeromeHunterX1 I think the way he tells his story is different from many of the mainstream books we have read in our past. Just from the first page, the author dives into deep concepts and difficult conversations. #engl20512
The details in the graphics of Reynolds novel, 'Long Way Down', bring out the meaning of the words. The in-depth pictures emphasize the feelings behind the writing, and I'm intrigued to continue reading. #engl20512
@paytonchandle11 It surprised me when I read that.... I think reading is crucial in one's childhood, as it can give readers a foundation to understand the world from such a young age. #engl20512
@MorganSchenkel That stood out to me too! It is such a simple phrase with so much meaning and lesson in it. From reading articles about his writing, I think 'Long Way Down' will contain a lot of deeper meaning throughout. #engl20512
After reading articles that explain graphic novels in a detailed explanation, it became more evident how much depth there is in comic books. It can be seen as just some pictures with words, however, it is fulling of deeper meanings and a lot of thought going into it. #engl20512
@SophDugan23 I agree! I think this was a moment where Clara was able to figure out the type of person she wants to become, and who she doesn't want to become. She reflected on the people in her life and their impact on her. It's evident that Clara is growing as a person. #engl20512
