The greatest grifter ever!
The idea that a ‘Palihapitiya’ needed to be a refugee during the civil war in Sri Lanka is laughable.
Using Canada’s welfare system to stand up on his feet, going over to US, turning heel, and decrying ‘socialism’ is just so on point for Scamath.
never thought i’d say this… i wholeheartedly agree with elizabeth warren.
also, term limits.
being an elected representative should not be a career. there should be no path for wealth creation or perpetual income from representing the interests of the people, in service of the people.
private citizens should enter public service, leave, and return to private life, as the founders intended.
“politician” has become a lucrative career option for those skilled at public oration and persuasion.
while they may represent their constituents’ interests, the reelection mandate incentivizes short-term decision-making and voting, often counter to the long-term interests of the people.
and having unfettered private market access while holding the privileged position of influence over, and non-public knowledge of, those markets will inevitably incentivize bad behavior, to the politician’s benefit, and the public’s detriment.
these ideals may be too far-fetched for our modern political machinery to consider - they would be self-defeating of the machines themselves - but the citizens can still be deafeningly loud in demanding them.
thx senator warren for getting this half-right.. also, term limits.
@1ChartMaster 100% agreed. I bought DELL around 141 and MRVL around 87.7 after seeing HVC and using anchored VWAP and closer to 20EMA. But exited both around 25-30% profit and sold on to strength. Now I can't get that out of my head whenever I see what these stocks are doing.
Trump’s last trade war with China: what actually happened.
In 2018, Trump launched a trade war by slapping tariffs on over $350B of Chinese goods.
China hit back with tariffs of their own – especially targeting U.S. farmers.
Here’s what it cost us:
•Tariffs were paid by U.S. importers, not China. American companies shelled out billions, often passing the cost on to consumers.
•Farmers got crushed. China stopped buying U.S. soybeans, pork, and more – causing massive losses. The Trump admin spent $28B in bailouts to keep them afloat.
•Manufacturing didn’t boom. Some steel producers gained, but many U.S. manufacturers and builders paid more for raw materials.
•The trade deficit? Barely moved. U.S. reliance on China didn’t meaningfully decrease.
•Phase One Deal? Mostly symbolic. China didn’t meet its purchase targets, and structural issues went unresolved.
In the end, the trade war aimed to punish China – but it was American businesses, consumers, and farmers who paid the highest price.
