We are saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Curt Newsome, who devoted his life to the game of football while helping lead us to our first national championship.
He was one of the most respected coaches in our state between his time at JMU, Virginia Tech and Emory & Henry. Our thoughts are with Coach Newsome's family during this difficult time.

The Emory & Henry football family lost a pillar this weekend. His legacy will live on within each player and coach he impacted.
We are deeply saddened, and send our thoughts and prayers to the entire Newsome family.
Saddened to learn of the passing of Curt Newsome - one of the more respected football coaches in the Commonwealth of Virginia - at the age of 67.
Newsome was Head Coach for 10 seasons at his alma mater, Emory & Henry. He also served as an assistant at James Madison and Virginia Tech.
At the prep level, Newsome guided Kecoughtan HS to six playoff wins, including a trip to the State Championship game in 1997.
Thoughts and prayers to his entire family. #RIP my friend!
@Gcarmi21@Commanders If they put the old logo on it I wouldn’t care. Fact is everything commanders is trash so anything they can change from that I’m good with. Respect your opinion on it though. Just want a real uniform not Etsy crap that previous ownership cursed us with.
I am currently formulating a decent argument that had the name not changed from Redskins, at least some reduced scope of the Post sports department would still exist.
Nuking the name and logo was always going to have second and third order knock-on effects. This is now effectively a bad expansion team, whose own history and legacy “shall not be spoken of!”
NFL franchises drive sports radio in every single market, and much the same for all media. When this franchise was stripped naked by the hysteria of the moment, it was instantly and gravely wounded.
Of course these are all things that the “what does the name matter” crowd just don’t understand, and never will.
@funnydanny I can’t stomach the name. It’s putrid, the only thing worse are the Walmart uniforms they make us watch professionals play in. The name has to change. It’s a thorn in our skin left from the crown of thorns that we all wore under the past ownership. Make it stop!
@grantpaulsen The refs need to stop with making the game about them. Every play I hold my breath for a flag. Sick of refs deciding games or fixing games for bets.
