He was unlucky as his only intention was to get the ball. He got it but his foot rode on top of the ball leading to his lower leg rolling over the ball as his momentum took him forward. Unfortunately within that motion his foot was now shin high and it made contact with the opponents leg. Was it deliberate? No! Should it then be deemed as reckless? There’s an argument for that, which is why he was sent off. The other issue is that VAR intervened in a situation that the ref had not even deemed a foul?? But there is still a chance it will be overturned just like the USA red card was!!! Well played FIFA - by humouring a toxic narcissist, you’ve thrown a cloud over every red card decision and brought the game into disrepute.
