Ajith Kumar's 'Maha' – The Unfinished Film That Lasted Just 12 Days... And His First-Ever Cop Role
Director Nanda Periyasamy had once shared an emotional note on Facebook about his unreleased directorial debut, Maha, starring Ajith Kumar.
"My very first directorial venture was Maha, with Ajith sir in the lead. The film commenced with an eight-day action schedule. During the shoot, Ajith sir suffered a fracture in his leg. After a lengthy period of recovery, he returned to complete the remaining portions, and filming resumed for another four days.
However, due to the persistent pain, he was unable to continue shooting. Around the same time, differences arose between Ajith sir and the film's producer, S.S. Chakravarthy of Nic Arts. As a result, Maha was shelved after just 12 days of filming.
Despite having an exceptional creative team - including lyricist Vairamuthu, music composer Harris Jayaraj, dialogue writer Balakumaran, art director Thotta Tharani, and stunt choreographer Kanal Kannan -the film could not be completed. With it, my dream as a filmmaker also came to an abrupt end.
Even today, the pain remains, like that of a mother who has lost her unborn child. Had Maha become my debut film, I believe my journey and growth in cinema would have taken a very different course."
Interestingly, Maha was also set to mark the first time Ajith Kumar would have appeared on screen as a police officer.

That #Mankatha re-release vibe was 🔥. His cult status back then came from his unconventional choices and willingness to go all out DAREDEVIL for any role.
