@julietJOUR When I was younger I never thought that full professional adults would strive to prey on young girls’ insecurities, but having fallen victim to these hidden schemes, it’s so prevalent in our society today.
@v___sanchez I’ve never thought of doing this! It makes a lot of sense though and I’ll definitely try to implement it now. It seems to be a smarter way of keeping a history of what your interests are over a period of time which is pretty interesting to me.
@mixchaelh Things like this show just how scary the internet is. Each year, the dangers increase and I just wonder if there will ever be a time where the internet STOPS getting more dangerous.
Just like the issue on deep fake technology, being able to clone one’s voice is going to have its ups and downs. The up, being the sentimental value of having someone’s voice after they pass and the down being the potential for disinformation. https://t.co/7wGCwhSZIE via @Verge
@malloryym@verge It’s hard to believe that this would be an oversight given the amount of information they hold on users and how many smart individuals would be involved in proofing this kind of data. If so, I wonder what motive they would have to intentionally withhold that information.
This is definitely a loss for the sex worker industry. In this day and age where we’ve gotten far in destigmatizing sex work, it’s a bit surprising that OnlyFans made this choice. However, it’s always one step forward and two steps back, right? https://t.co/MrJPOExDHc
@malloryym@TechCrunch Over the years, I believe socials have done well in their efforts to stop cyber bullying and prioritize mental health. This anti-abuse feature has the potential to do a lot of good, I only hope the algorithm is accurate enough so censorship doesn’t become a problem.
@v___sanchez Social media interface changes are always frustrating! Sometimes they can turn out to be beneficial but in my experience, more often than not they’re unnecessary and just a way for socials to compete with one another.
@julietJOUR@verge This seems to actually be a really positive feature! With the uncertainty of the accuracy of information on social media, I can see this making it easier for people to trust certain content - which is rare.
@mixchaelh NOPE. The amount of stories I’ve heard of strangers taking creepy pictures of women in the gym, on the street, etc is crazy and this stealthy way is only going to make those instances worse! I just can’t seem to grasp why anyone would need these other than to do creepy things.
@malloryym@VICE I’ve seen some of these TikToks too and it’s crazy to watch and get a little glimpse into their world. I feel that these TikToks could even help with humanizing prisoners to the public which could have a positive affect on prison reform.
