UT’s World Language Day fair is happening until 2pm today. Come visit us in 1.302 RLP to learn about the languages UT offers, study abroad programs, and the FLAS fellowship! @UTAustin
@KevinAbroad1 HAHAHA I’ve just resorted to saying “I understand this is familiar to some and brand new to others, but we will learn it together now” 💀💀
@MonteSyrie I JUST talked to a colleague about this & that Im not sure where I am on the district scope/sequence but that my kids are learning what they need lol I don’t even feel bad
@tmsaue1 O. M. G. We hear “we need to balance personal life and work” and all kinds of well meaning things, but the reality is that the aspect of my job that cause me the most stress and oppression are systemic and (sadly) the general conditions of our sector
@SraWitkowski I agree, especially because they’re also learning their own native language and sometimes those connections stick all around. My students have learned MANY new English words just off Spanish cognates 😂 like marmalade, masticate, etc. Even what adverbs are!!
MAN, I caught myself thinking “my kids aren’t able to..” today & then I began thinking of ALL the ways their lives have been changed by the pandemic. I’m taking what I need from this thread, which is: keep being positive, realistic, understanding, and treat kids like humans ✨
While we are all concerned about Covid, I’d like to remind everyone that EVERY SINGLE DAY elementary school teachers come in contact with mystery fluids and have to ask, over and over, “Why is that wet?”
I just want one full day per week for lesson planning and collaborating. And 90 minutes per day to give students feedback and communicate with students and families.
Then I’d be where I want to be as a teacher.
Please and thank you.
@KevinAbroad1 I don’t think I ever feel unmotivated to learn a language- right now with Italian- so much as feeling that I don’t have time to or there aren’t classes that work for me? Etc. Same with French, but with French I didn’t have a positive experience with my teacher’s methodology
@Prof_F_Henshaw @spanishplans @mme_wagstaff Well it’s something I think about. For example, say students who are very driven to get 95-100 no matter the task and no matter the conversations about proficiency, them wanting to re do the EdPuzzle or another similar task just to get that grade, it kind of seems passive?
