@Sistaliano Happy New Month.
I am following up on your recent post about the Government's Cash Transfer program. Hearing that people may be pressured to return ₦30,000 out of ₦50,000 - especially through fear of being excluded next time- is deeply concerning. Share specific details please.
@Sistaliano Our commitment is to protect the integrity of the programme and, more importantly, to protect the dignity and rights of the poorest households we serve. Transparency and accountability are not optional; they are fundamental to the success of this intervention.
@Sistaliano If you are able to share more details — such as the location, date, or individuals involved i.e. State, Local Government, name(s) of person(s) involved. This will help us escalate this appropriately. Allegations of this nature are treated very seriously.
@Sistaliano State Grievance Redress Managers and Federal Grievance Redress Managers. Anyone can call us to escalate issues on 969 for free using any MTN line between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm weekdays only.
@Sistaliano The programme has a Grievance Redress Mechanism specifically for situations like this. It exists to protect beneficiaries and ensure accountability. These include Local Government Grievance Redress Officers, Community Facilitators, Local Government Desk Officers,
@Sistaliano * The money is theirs.
* No one has the right to take any portion of it.
* Refusing to refund money will not disqualify them from future support.
* There are official channels where they can safely report such incidents.
@Sistaliano We also understand something important here: fear is a powerful emotion. When people believe their future support depends on complying with these demands, they may feel they have no choice. That is why we want to reassure beneficiaries of the following:
@Sistaliano Local Government officials are not authorized to collect or demand money from beneficiaries after payment has been made. Anyone doing so is acting outside the programme’s rules and will be liable.
@Sistaliano Hearing that people may be pressured to return ₦30,000 out of ₦50,000 - especially through fear of being excluded next time- is deeply concerning. That is not how this programme works, and it is not acceptable under any circumstances.
@Sistaliano Once the money is paid, it belongs fully to the beneficiary. There are no deductions, no commissions, and no refunds attached to this programme.
@Sistaliano@Sistaliano
Thank you sincerely for bringing this to our attention.
Let me say this clearly and without hesitation: no beneficiary is required to return any part of their cash transfer to anyone — not at the LGA, not at the state level, and not at the federal level.
