We are seeing significant volatility, and I wanted to share some thoughts about it.
You will see some examples today of people wisdom-signaling, as though they have a crystal ball and can predict and forecast the future.
They can't, but they will make sure to let you know because they are likely selling a service, and you might think that next time they will tell you the future...but they can't. Market timing is not possible.
Secondly, one of my most popular posts on this platform was in the beginning of January earlier this year when Trump took over Venezuela and the narrative was that all of a sudden we don't need Canadian oil and the US doesn't need anything from Canada, despite importing 60% of its oil from Canada and facing Pad 2 logistical challenges when it comes to Venezuela.
Despite the initial sell-off, many of the stocks doubled, and many of the names we all follow are up 30%, 50%, and even 100% since then....in some cases before the Iran conflict.
Now this story has changed too, because the Trump administration is not stupid and is now forcing companies to invest in Venezuela. Despite the narrative noise you hear from minor-league speculators, this is what I am thinking: we are indeed in one of the biggest energy crises humanity has ever seen.
The Trump administration understood it and notice how fast the urgency for a deal materialized, even though the outcome remains to be seen....notice how fast and urgent the messaging flipped and how all of a sudden Trump wants out even if Iran keeps its nukes, toll booths, and $300B in somebody's cash.
The oil bulls were right, but Trump is fighting back as he doesn't want this energy crisis as it unfolds, notice the US SPR at a very sad 340 million barrels 1980s level....
Anyhow, expect more volatility. Q2 earnings are going to be amazing; the companies are printing money even here, and as suggested before, whoever invests in this sector needs to focus on low-cost-of-supply producers.
Everything will be okay, friends. Shake and bake.🫡🪒
AbraSilver @AbraSilver just hit its strongest La Coipita intercept to date:
747.5m @ 0.69% Cu, 0.06 g/t Au and 142 ppm Mo.
For context, many economic porphyry copper mines operate around 0.3-0.5% Cu.
So this is a real bulk-tonnage result.
The follow-up hole also confirmed continuity, while a new shallower discovery 1.9 km south returned:
42m @ 1.03% Cu and 0.63 g/t Au
incl. 28m @ 1.45% Cu and 0.81 g/t Au.
La Coipita is not the main Abra story.
Diablillos is.
But with Teck already spending US$23M and Abra retaining a potential 20% free-carried interest, this is a valuable reminder that Abra has more than one path to shareholder upside.
@peter_krauth and I maintain our full weighting.

During the Hormuz crisis, IEA countries opened their strategic reserves the emergency oil stockpiles governments keep for exactly this scenario.
At the peak in May: 109 million barrels released in a single month.
The US alone dumped 50 million barrels in June.
Japan, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Europe everyone burned through their emergency supply to keep the world running.
Now look at the right side of that table.
October: zero
November: zero
December: zero
The emergency releases are over.
So here's where we are
The market thinks the crisis is over because a deal was signed.
The data says the buffer is gone.

THEO VON: “Was there anybody who was immune to COVID-19?”
DR. MCCULLOUGH: “There’s one adult group. You’re going to laugh.”
[Theo Von listens closely for the reveal]
DR. MCCULLOUGH: “Smokers… They got very mild cases. And they don’t get long COVID.”
THEO VON: “Why?”
MCCULLOUGH: “Because smokers maintain a level of nicotine in the bloodstream… Smoking blocks the spike protein. It’s amazing. I thought smokers were going to go down.”
THEO VON: “Do you think that’s a good idea [to use nicotine patches] on a regular basis?”
DR. MCCULLOUGH: “I think [it’s a good idea] if they have long COVID... Nicotine, don’t forget, is a nootropic. A nootropic is a drug that makes the brain function more effectively... It’s addictive, but it’s not harmful to the human body... Nicotine patches are perfectly safe.”
I used to be in charge of all the crude and product tank inventories in the refinery.
Here is a simple picture of the operating levels of the tank. You've got deadstocks at the bottom of the tank because the pump nozzle is positioned slightly above a certain level. We used to call this 'the unpumpables'. Go below this level and your feed pump would cavitate. Big no-no.
Then you get a minimum working level after catering for contingency levels (e.g. enough product stocks to cater for x days of unplanned shutdown).
And although you have a huge tank that can technically fill to the brim, the actual working volume at the top is lower than the absolute max to also factor in for contingency levels (e.g. enough capacity to store off-spec rundown for an unplanned shutdown). Tank top scenario is a horror nobody wants to face due to risk of loss of primary containment (i.e. a safety incident).
In the current low stocks environment in the US, you are going to 'scrape tank bottoms', up to the minimum working level. So you will always have some stocks because you can't draw to absolute zero.

Money supply is skyrocketing:
Global money supply is now up to a record $121.9 trillion.
Over the last 2 years, money supply has soared +$17.1 trillion, or +16%.
This also marks a +$27 trillion increase, or +28%, since the 2022 low.
This means that global money supply is surging +7% to +8% a year.
Meanwhile, US M2 money supply jumped +$1 trillion YoY, or +4.6%, to a record $22.7 trillion.
Money supply growth is accelerating.
Just a reminder in case you forgot: despite all the bullshit on Axios and Truth Social, massive production losses are piling up in the Persian Gulf.
Considering the logistical delays to restart production, I have no idea how huge the final loss will actually be. It’s absolutely insane.
Meaningless time passing and things becoming deadlocked is the best gift of all. Let's just let time do the work :)
