Venezuela, with U.S. military and intelligence support, has launched a major crackdown on criminal groups that control large parts of its gold-mining region.
The operation, which included the killing of alleged Tren de Aragua leader Héctor Guerrero, is part of a broader effort by the country's interim government to restore security, weaken organized crime, and attract foreign investment into Venezuela's rich deposits of gold and critical minerals.
