I was always a below-average student. I completed my BTech from a tier-3 college with no placements. I then did my MTech from another tier-3 college. While pursuing it, I took SAP training. After completing my postgraduate degree, I still couldn’t find a job. A relative was already working in the SAP domain, so I hoped he would help me with a job referral. At that time we had some family differences, and he did not even care to look at my resume. So I continued searching. One day, a friend informed me that a company known to his cousin had openings for SAP freshers. I applied, cleared the interview, and got selected. It was a very small company with maybe 10 to 15 employees. Within a week, I received an offer letter, but to my surprise, the name on the offer letter was different. I checked with my friend’s cousin, who said it was no problem and that I could still join the company. The company was based in Pune. One fine day, I joined. Work started, yet there was still no proper offer letter and, obviously, no salary. Every weekend I used to call my friend’s cousin; sometimes he even shouted at me on the phone. I never told my family about the struggle. I borrowed money from friends just to survive in a completely different state, even though I supposedly had a job. One fine day, the CEO called me and said he would give me a stipend of ₹3,500. I was very happy that I would at least get some money, but he never paid anything. Luckily, my friends supported me financially and sent money whenever I asked. After nearly three months, when the project went live, the CEO gave me a cheque of ₹3,000 the only money I ever received from that company. At one point I thought of leaving this company without having any other offer, but I was at zero. Even if I left I would still be at zero. At least by working here I was gaining some work experience, so I continued. One day I received a LinkedIn message about SAP openings in a Hyderabad-based company. I sent my resume and got selected. I shifted to Hyderabad with zero expectations. Joining that company completely changed my life. My salary grew 6X in 4.5 years there. It was the company where I fell in love with coding. Later, that company was acquired by another one, and eventually I had to part ways with the acquired company. Sometimes I look back and feel surprised at how strong I was. A single message from LinkedIn completely changed my life and my finances. In 2022, my wife was in last trimester, she was unwell and hospitalized, had to stay entire day in the hospital. my in laws and parents all are in hospital except me, I was at home attending unavoidable meetings and worked on deliverables like a clown. In 2023 i got laid off from the same company.
