Another Friday, placed under house arrest and prevented from going to Jama Masjid to offer obligatory prayers and deliver the sermon.

While as usual no reason is given by the authorities, but the timing, coming soon after Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) raised the legitimate concern over the sale of pork in Kashmir,is telling. Such high-handed measures only reinforce the shrinking space and the reprisal that follows for raising public or religious concerns of the people of Jammu Kashmir.

Silencing people’s voices by arrests and bans will neither address concerns nor prevent us from raising them.

August 5 is a painful reminder of the day when a decision was imposed upon J&K by the Government of India, reneging on its own constitutional commitments made to the people of Jammu & Kashmir and unilaterally altering its structure and status, further disempowering a people awaiting conflict resolution.

This multi-pronged assault on the identity, character and rights of the people of J&K has left yet another deep wound on our body politic. Yet, the courage and resilience of the people of this land in safeguarding it and standing up for their rights has always been exemplary.

We can only hope that a day will come when the Government of India will honour the spirit of Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat, and engage with the people of J&K with Justice,sincerity and respect.

مدینہ منورہ کی مقدس سرزمین پر ایک مسجد کھڑی ہے جو تاریخِ اسلام کا ایک زندہ معجزہ ہے — مسیجد القبلتین۔ وہ جگہ جہاں اللہ کے رسول ﷺ نے ایک ہی نماز میں دو قبلے کی طرف رخ کیا۔ ایک بار بیت المقدس کی طرف، جو اس وقت قبلہ تھا، اور پھر جبریلِ امینؑ کے ذریعے نازل ہونے والے حکمِ الٰہی کے ساتھ فوراً کعبۃ اللہ کی طرف۔
یہ صرف ایک مسجد نہیں، بلکہ ایمان کی تبدیلی، توحید کی بلندی اور امت مسلمہ کی وحدت کی علامت ہے۔
اس وقت جب یہودیوں اور مشرکین نے طعنے دیے کہ محمد ﷺ کا قبلہ تبدیل ہو گیا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے قرآن مجید میں فرمایا:
“سَيَقُولُ السُّفَهَاءُ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَا وَلَّاهُمْ عَنْ قِبْلَتِهِمُ الَّتِي كَانُوا عَلَيْهَا ۚ قُلْ لِلَّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ ۚ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ”
(البقرہ: ١٤٢)
“لوگوں کے بیوقوف کہیں گے کہ انہیں اس قبلے سے کیوں پھیر دیا جس پر وہ تھے؟ کہہ دیجیے: مشرق اور مغرب اللہ ہی کا ہے۔ وہ جسے چاہے سیدھے راستے کی طرف ہدایت کرتا ہے۔”
اس لمحے میں امت مسلمہ کو بتا دیا گیا کہ قبلہ کوئی پتھر یا دیوار نہیں، بلکہ اللہ کی اطاعت ہے۔ جہاں اللہ کا حکم ہو، وہیں رخ کرنا پڑے گا۔ یہ تبدیلی نہ صرف قبلے کی تھی، بلکہ قلوب کی بھی تھی۔ یہودیوں کی تقلید سے نکل کر خالص توحید کی طرف، عالمی اور ابدی قبلے کی طرف۔
آج جب ہم مسجد القبلتین میں کھڑے ہوتے ہیں تو دل کانپ اٹھتا ہے۔ یہی وہ جگہ ہے جہاں اللہ نے اپنے نبی ﷺ کو اور پوری امت کو بتایا کہ ہماری پہچان قبلے کی طرف رخ ہے۔ ایک قبلہ، ایک امت، ایک اللہ۔
اے میرے رب! ہمیں بھی ہر اُس قبلے سے پھیر دے جو تیرے سوا کسی اور کی طرف لے جائے۔ ہمارے دلوں کو کعبہ کی طرف، تیرے رسول ﷺ کی سنت کی طرف، اور آخرت کی طرف موڑ دے۔
مسیجد القبلتین ہمیں یاد دلاتی ہے کہ:
جس نے اللہ کا حکم مان لیا، اس کی پوری کائنات اس کے ساتھ رخ بدل دیتی ہے۔
اللہ ہمیں اس مبارک مقام کی برکت سے نوازے اور ہمارا قبلہ ہمیشہ سیدھا رکھے۔
آمین یا رب العالمین۔
