GPT 5.6 is quite an upgrade. I like how much I can get done with just medium reasoning. Still figuring out how to delegate things lower models (luna high reasoning? or terra medium?). Glad that openai gives free resets to test things out. Pls keep them coming!
I disagree with: "Great minds think alike."
Instead: Great minds challenge each other safely 🤜 🤛
I have experienced myself many times how easy it is to try to avoid "too much conflict."
I found it much harder to act on the other extreme: when there is NOT ENOUGH robust debate.
I invited a client recently to do a week-long ‘energy audit’ on themselves..you record your activities by hour and simply add a (-) or a (+) depending on whether it drains energy or replenishes. It always sparks insights and adds precision to coaching goals.
𝐏𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: For one week, track which tasks give you energy and which ones drain you. You might discover that what you dread could be the perfect task for someone else on your team.
I used to think growth was about fixing myself. Then I realized the real power is in how I see others. The "External Growth Mindset" means believing in someone ELSE'S potential, even when they doubt it. It's Growth Mindset, just outwards!
We often shy from empathy, fearing it means excusing bad behavior. I've learned true empathy is about understanding, not condoning. It's holding space for someone's struggle AND upholding standards. You can listen deeply without letting go of accountability.
We're often physically present but mentally miles away. I've seen it in myself, and in others: the subtle disconnect. True presence is being "here AND here" – fully engaged, mind & body. I often ask in workshops, whether people are here AND here...and they get it after a moment!
My first instinct as a leader is to tell people how to fix things. But I've learned that "You should..." creates resistance. A small shift I practice now: I describe the problem. "I see five typos on this page," not "Fix the typos." It gives others space to own the solution. 🌱
My old reflex to criticism was self-defense. My new one? "Tell me more." It’s a simple phrase that buys my brain time, defuses tension, and shifts me from reacting to listening. My most powerful tool for staying present when under pressure. 🧘
A coaching truth I return to often... 🍾
"You can't read the label from inside the bottle."
I was once so stuck on a problem, lost in the details. A friend's simple, outside observation gave me instant clarity. We are often too close to our own challenges to see the truth!
The hardest part of coaching? It’s NOT asking questions. 🤔
It’s learning to truly let others lead, resist the urge to solve, and avoid judging ideas - even positive ones! Unlearning expertise is tougher than learning skills. What’s one leadership habit you’ve had to unlearn?
Disagreements could turn into arguments when we attack a 'straw man'—misrepresenting what the other person said. But have you heard of the "steel man approach"?
