The question is not whether Kenya may belong to the IMF or the World Bank. The question is whether the Bretton Woods Agreements Act, a statute enacted at independence in 1963 may continue, after the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, to authorise treaty implementation, borrowing, public expenditure, tax exemptions, and institutional immunities in a manner that weakens judicial control of public power, limits access to justice and information, and displaces the constitutional architecture of accountable public finance.

While the Act may have served a lawful purpose at the time of its enactment in 1963, its continued operation must now be assessed against the normative framework of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

To the extent that its purpose or effect is inconsistent with the Constitution, the provisions must be read down, adapted, or declared invalid.

Accordingly, even if the Act was constitutionally unobjectionable at independence, its continued effect in the post 2010 constitutional order cannot be sustained where it undermines or derogates from constitutional requirements.

Meet Pantalo—a quiet hero whose courage inspires hope!

Every morning before sunrise, 65-year-old Pantalo Razaro Muhindo begins a 10-kilometer journey on foot to the Uganda–DR Congo border. For most people, the journey itself would be enough. But for Pantalo, it is only the beginning.

For the past 17 years, he has served as a dedicated Uganda Red Cross volunteer. Today, he stands on the front lines of Uganda's Ebola response, disinfecting trucks, screening travelers, and helping stop the spread of the disease, one person, one vehicle, one day at a time.

Pantalo's journey of service began after witnessing a friend's selfless commitment to helping others. Inspired, he chose a path that has seen him respond to disasters, support vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now protect lives during the Ebola outbreak.

"This is my calling. It is the part of myself that I offer to my community and my nation," Pantalo says.

Not all heroes wear capes or seek recognition. Some quietly show up every single day, walking miles so others can live in safer, healthier communities.

Pantalo is one of more than 400 Uganda Red Cross volunteers serving in high-risk districts across the country, working tirelessly to contain the Ebola outbreak and protect lives.

Together, through courage, compassion, and community action, dedication and focus, we will overcome this outbreak and emerge stronger as a country.

Extreme heat is a growing public health risk across East Africa, with children, older persons, and outdoor workers among the most affected. Rising temperatures are increasing the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other life-threatening conditions.

To respond, Tanzania Red Cross @trcs1962 volunteers are reaching communities in Unguja and Tanga with practical, life-saving information on hydration, rest, and recognizing early signs of heat-related illness. Through community outreach and awareness sessions, people are learning simple actions that can protect their health and save lives.

In Zanzibar, these efforts are reinforced by mangrove planting initiatives, helping to protect coastal ecosystems while strengthening long-term community resilience to climate change and rising temperatures.
Simple actions today can reduce risks tomorrow.

The Court certified the application as urgent and granted interim conservatory orders restraining the Respondents from establishing, operationalising, approving, or facilitating any Ebola exposure, quarantine, isolation, or treatment facility in Kenya under any arrangement with the United States or any other foreign government or agency, pending the hearing of the application.

The Court further barred the Respondents from admitting into, transferring to, receiving within, or facilitating the entry into Kenya of any persons exposed to or infected with Ebola pursuant to the impugned arrangement.

The matter is scheduled for mention on 2nd June 2026 for further directions.

As Uganda responds to a confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, the @IFRC has released funds from its @IFRC_DREF to support the Red Cross response on the ground and help contain the spread.
