it was an opinion that spread far and wide amongst the humans who purchased her services. he was different. he’d always been different.
perhaps the world would be a better place filled with replicants.

most ‘handlers’ weren’t like him. they thought of joi as a simple holographic companion to feed them the lewd acts they craved that no smart human female would give them. k didn’t like people who thought like that.
even before she had her body he thought of her as real.

smile remained on her lips as she felt the dress tighten around her form once zipped up, holding her in snugly. it was then that she spun around as though she were weightless, her bright smile reaching her eyes as she blinked

the world may have been warped in her eyes, but it was still a world she rarely had the opportunity to explore. most handlers kept her locked away inside, after all.
it took her a little longer than usual to change — still getting

then it was fair to assume joi saw the world through rose colored glasses, or rather, bright and colorful neon signs. the real world was a mess. it wasn’t nearly as fun as the holographs made it out to be.
“ i’ll be here.”
k, as per usual, stood awkwardly —

used to the manual dressing — but once she managed to slip her thigh — high boots on herself, she was set. almost.
stepping back out, her hands held the midi latex dress to her chest, zipper hanging open by her waist behind.

despite the fact, he’d traversed the real world more than she had. the most she had ever seen was through the eyes of one of her many holographic advertisements, and even then, that proved fruitless.

k gave her the once over, tilting his head to the side in thought. he was certainly not the one to be asked on the outside worlds fashion, she had seen the way he dressed regularly.

that’s what real girls wore.
at least that’s what he saw.

clasping her hands together, she nodded with fervour, gaze soon lowering to her clothing. it was a mixture of k’s and what she’d been bought after the . . . upgrade.
“ should i change my clothes ? what do they wear in the city ?”

seeing her this happy made his worries dwindle slightly, just slightly. it wasn’t that he wanted to keep her hidden away — she deserved to see the world.
“ i do think it would be fun.”
of course his definition of fun was completely different from hers.

the answer practically had her beaming, her face lighting up like one of the many neon signs surrounding their building. his worry was lost on her.
“ we could get you some new clothes, too ! it will be fun, don’t you think ? ”
⠀
though he was still hesitant to expose her to the outside world, there was no need in denying her wants simply because he himself held worry.
“ of course. we can go wherever you want.”
⠀
halting, hazel hues flutter up at him, a sweet little smile tugging at her own lips as she tilts her head.
“ will you take me out ? i thought we could go shopping. ”

another blink, information processing. experiencing pain in such a way is something she didn’t yet understand.
“ do you want me to put it on ice ? it will help with the pain.”

scooting up against the arm of the couch, he gave another awkward shrug of his shoulders.
“ the bounty hit harder than what i was expecting. it hurt. ”
