It shouldn't take 9 years to implement a simple capital project for safety improvements on a street. Also, no bus or bike lanes. Disgraceful. @sam_d_1995@JerusalemDemsas@MarketUrbanism@2AvSagas @BrooklynSpoke @Ramond123456 @TransitNinja205
Today in 1963, NYC's first bus lanes opened in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Yet nearly 60 years later, less than 1% of our streets are dedicated to moving millions of bus riders.
Let's change this: With #NYC25x25, every New Yorker can live within a quarter-mile of a bus lane.
Putting a protected bike lane, sidewalk, and bus lane on every street is somehow a controversial act in a country that doesn’t think twice about putting free parking, roads, and highways on every street.
We can't understate the incredible power of transit riders when we're organized and focused. It's how we won $900 million for #BetterBuses last month!
Now, let's make sure every mile of bus lanes promised by @NYCMayor is painted! (So far, he's at 0). https://t.co/JNugRFgaLf
This spring, NYC DOT will resume implementation of #BetterBuses, #BikeNYC & pedestrian improvements on University Ave (Washington Bridge to Tremont Ave) in #theBronx. This work will:
🚶♀️🚴♂️Improve pedestrian & cyclist safety
🚌Increase bus speeds & reliability
🚗Calm traffic
City leaders made a promise to deliver #BetterBuses, safer streets, and a more equitable city when the NYC Streets Plan became law.
We're thrilled that @NYCCouncil is demanding $3.1 billion in funding for the Streets Plan in their budget response!

A thread of some random thoughts:
Some routes that will get delayed due to congestion without bus priority in the Queens Bus Redesign:
Q50 on the Whitestone, Q68 on the Kosciuszko, Q51 on the Belt. There are others. Union Street in Flushing needs bus priority./1
Haven’t been to Flushing’s Main St since the busway went in, but whoa, what a change it’s brought to the stretch. This is at evening rush, and there’s much less honking and traffic (although some cars still enter). Buses are flying by.
CONFIRMED. The next round of jersey barriers for bike lanes includes Grand Street (!!!) thanks to the advocacy of our North Brooklyn TA Activist Committee @NBk_TA and others. What do you want to make sure @NYC_DOT does on Grand St?
The @MainStBusway has definitely sped up the buses and made it safer to walk & bike. It's much more pleasant to visit and commute through downtown #Flushing than it was when it was gridlocked and suffocated by drivers. #Busway FTW!
Busway fans, what we are doing in Jamaica, Queens is extraordinary. Better transit for real people living real lives. Pay attention. ❤️🚌🚌❤️🚌❤️ #betterbuses
