The gathering comprised only a few dozen individuals, most appearing to be fresh immigrants from across the border, seemingly coerced into participation. Disturbingly, video footage shows minor girls smiling and responding to slogan calls, raising serious concerns about manipulation, coercion, and the exploitation of vulnerable children for political theatre.

The recent revelation that Sister Lamnunthem has her permanent home in Imphal, and that during the displacement they have been staying in a rented house at Kangpokpi, clearly reaffirms that Imphal is their only true home. One can only imagine the anxiety and longing of their bereaved family to return. Sadly, certain armed groups and separatist elements like Thongkholal Haokip continue to exploit such tragedies to push their impossible dream of a separate administration. The government must act firmly to dismantle these invisible terrorist forces who are silencing displaced voices, voices of people who wish to go back to their homes but are being deliberately suppressed. We stand with every Manipuri who has been systematically uprooted and pushed into the hills, solely to justify this sinister agenda.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Lamnunthem’s family and many others like them are effectively being held hostage by Thongkholal’s terror group in Kangpokpi, used as bargaining chips for their demand for a separate administration, just to suit their popular phrase: “We are physically, emotionally separated, why not administratively?” In these trying times, we also extend our deepest condolences to the families of the two young souls from Manipur who left us too soon in the recent plane crash. Their untimely demise is a profound loss for all of us. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
