GOOD NEWS: Phinza Kuchande was released from death row and Malawi's Zomba prison last night. He told our own Chipi Lulanga that he "feels like he has been resurrected."
Phinza is the first to be released since Malawi abolished the death penalty in May.
Opposition to the death penalty in Malawi is gathering more momentum each day.
MPs, the Malawi Prison Service, representatives of victims, Muslim and Christian faith leaders, traditional leaders and our own @AKamangila have come together to call for abolition👇🏿

Very sad news. Byson Kaula was an inspiring figure in Malawi's battle against the death penalty. When @charlottermcd and I met him in 2019 he was already in his 60s, but making up for the decades of life he'd lost in prison after an unsafe conviction. /1
