@carygolomb I am so hyped for it. I really love the Steam controller, but this may overtake it because it has a Steam controller puck built in. I just need Valve to send you one so it’ll be one less person I need to fight in the lottery lol.
@HardwareSteam I am impatiently waiting, lol. I want to build a new pc for it, though, and use my racing wheel more in the living room. I hope it is easier to get than the controller and steam machine has been for others.
@Ramsteinrig@Averail7@Lucradive@HardwareSteam It is a weird flex, but calling that GPU dogshit is hilarious. If it is dogshit and ~55% faster vs Steam Machine, what does that make the Steam Machine? I would personally stay away from 8GB VRAM cards, but at $660, it was a decent price that may have tempted me.
BTW, if the XBOX division is scrounging for loose change under the sofa cushions, I’m still willing to put up a $1M guarantee to allow @TeamBeefVR to commercialize the legacy open source games on VR.
Crazy how we all view art in the frame of capitalism, executives and shareholders nowadays. Indistinguishable from how music fans talk about chart topping and sales.
Dev story to celebrate the good times at idSoftware [this one in the era before MS ownership] - For Doom 2016, both NVIDIA and AMD had offered onsite devtech support to help in OpenGL to Vulkan porting effort for idTech. So AMD shipped me out to id's Richardson/TX office ...
@GenePark It’s easily my favorite controller for pc. The shortcuts for Alt Tab on it and to turn on the mouse when in gamepad mode mean I never need to touch my mouse and keyboard. I wish Valve sold more pucks for it and that I could store 3 pucks for 2 PCs plus Steam Frame
"If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, and I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world." - Satoru Iwata.
Microsoft (and Sony) higher ups greenlit the wrong games and failed to oversee their studios. They laid off veterans with decades of experience and dismantled what the teams had built over a long time. They replaced some people with AI but maintained a ridiculous number of managers and higher up figures and those rarely faced consequences. If they did, they got their nice paychecks anyway. A clown fiesta
@maybesomedayx1@tomwarren@Shpeshal_Nick Spent over 5 hours on troubleshooting and couldn’t fix it. The only solution seemed to be reinstalling Windows, which I did not wish to do at the time. Because of that, I lost over 3 months of my sub not being able to play anything and just stopped using it.
@maybesomedayx1@tomwarren@Shpeshal_Nick I would not call the Xbox launcher a proper attempt. It is easily the worst launcher I’ve used on pc due to how heavily integrated it is with Windows. I had a weird error that prevented me from launching any game I had or was subscribed to on Game Pass.
@carygolomb I find it difficult for me to justify buying any xbox game in the future even on steam. It feels like the team will just be fired a year or two later so whats the point? Especially when the games I enjoy are the unique ones like hi fi rush and south of midnight :/
1.) buy company
2.) fire all the experienced talent who’d worked on the same AAA series for decades
3.) hire less experienced talent and give them less pay, impossible deadlines, and contradictory demands on said legacy game
4.) game bombs
5.) sell company as if clever move
I admire IT people 20 years in who still run home labs. It's like coming home from the egg salad sandwich factory, hearing, "what do you want for dinner, honey?" And saying, "same thing we have every night: egg salad sandwiches."
This sucks for a lot of reasons but something I haven't seen discussed enough today is how this is going hand in hand with Sony's move toward "dynamic pricing" on digital games
(ICYMI: the PlayStation Store sometimes displays different prices to each user for the same product)
@carygolomb I wonder if the digital licenses will have play anywhere entitlement also for those that have it. If so, that would be so nice. Having a pc version of the game and getting to just have an upgraded version on Helix if the dev doesn’t do one would be a cool feature.
@digitalfoundry@dark1x Ever since I got my lg 5kx2k oled I was mad I never used an ultra wide before. It is amazing for work and gaming. I’ve always used fancy zones to split up my screen based on what I am doing, so editing my layouts for it was pretty easy.
