The US economy was placed on a total war footing.

There was a draft, rationing, massive industrial mobilization, enormous ground invasions, and the eventual occupation of enemy territory.

Unless Levin is advocating for millions of troops, a draft, wartime rationing, industrial mobilization, a ground invasion of Iran, and a years-long occupation, his World War II comparison is stupid.

And if he is advocating for that — which I suspect he is — then he’s a complete lunatic.

The exclusion covers any ship with "Saudi touchpoints," including foreign-flagged vessels that previously called at Saudi ports.

Saudi Arabia is now being lumped in with the US, UK, and Israel as high-risk jurisdictions — a serious blow given Riyadh's growing reliance on Red Sea exports via Yanbu (up to 5 mn b/d) while the Strait of Hormuz stays largely closed.

Several Saudi cargoes are already U-turning around the Cape of Good Hope, others are switching off GPS to sneak through Bab al-Mandab, and the Houthis say the "naval blockade" targets only Saudi shipping.

That’s a pretty strong indictment that our policy is not working. Both Cooper and Caine essentially advising to hold off. Wonder what Hegseth advised? Is Trump tiring of his shtick? That said…Diplomacy is not promising either, as Iran effectively controls the SOH. And that is their red line for any future agreement. So there are no good options in either military (understanding domestic constraints on ground troops) or diplomatic arenas. Wish I had something more positive to say. It’s easy to be a critic, but there’s no silver bullet out of this mess. Perhaps if we had a functioning national security process (and a NSC that works), some creative ideas could come out from the inter agency? Yet also a problem, as so many experts have left the USG (the State Dept is irrelevant, which is crazy to think about).
