Having completed the more traditional works for the exhibition on the sea, I am now focusing on abstract pieces. This particular piece is inspired by childhood memories of many picnics by the sea. Acrylic on canvas 152 x 122 x 3.5 cm. #acrylicpainting #seaside #abstractpainting

I love drawing and have come to enjoy these mixed-media sketches. I can't get the finish I am looking for, I am trying for the dynamism of an earlier fighting finches sketch, but much less colour. #drawing

A smaller work that will be in my autumn exhibition exploring the sea, this is inspired by memories of the sea when I was lobster fishing for two years, and looking at the North Sea for 30 years. "North Sea l", acrylic on panel, is 50 x 50 cm.

Working with old pieces of found wood can present problems, the biscuit is uneven, I had to take away quite a lot of soft wood to get to the good needing to retain the thickness of the lower part which is good to hollow out the circle on the bottom to a depth of 1cm. #sculpture

"Memories Cast the Longest Shadows" found and gifted wood 37x37x13.5cm. People bring me odd pieces they find. The black upright piece was found on the shores of the Aegean Sea 7 years ago. It reminded me of the singularity of the human experience. #sculpture #memory #wood

I bond them to the board, cover them with two or three layers of tissue paper and then add many layers of paint. A technique I found when I discovered the work of artist Lee JinWoo who creates large abstract canvases using gradations on pebbles and grit amongst other materials.

"What A Little Moonlight Can Do". 152 x 121 x 5 cm is another of the larger works for my upcoming exhibition "To look at the sea is to become what one is ". The detailing in the foam at the base of the picture is created using small pebbles and grit from the beach. Details in /2

This third image "Mogg's Eye" is a studio piece from sketches made walking at Mogg's Eye, two miles north of the Observatory. One of the more traditional pieces in the exhibition which will include abstracts and assemblages. #painting #seascape #beach

This piece has the title of the exhibition which in turn came from a two-volume anthology of the works of writer, poet, artist Etal Adnan, "To look at the Sea is to become what one is". Another of her short works "Shifting the Silence" I found inspiring. #assemblage #sculpture

This work, titled "To Look at the sea is to become what one is" will be part of the exhibition I am staging in August. The song accompanying the video is "La Mer" written and performed by Charles Trenet, it was first recorded by Roland Gerbeau in 1945. Then by Trenetin 1946

"Stubblefield At Sunset, Addlethorpe." (Abstract off-set triptych). Overall dimensions 216.5 x102.5cm. Inspired by an evening walk last October this was originally going with just one panel but was never happy with what I achieved and so the work developed. Final piece below.
