Can neurons speak? 🧠
New preprint: NEURRATOR. We take #MechInterp out of the LMs and point it at real brains with real neurons. We read spike trains from single neurons in mouse visual cortex and get them to narrate the scene in plain language. 🧵

That's why I love Professor Shapiro's research. They engineer proteins that enable single cell level non-invasive imaging and modulation of the nervous system and other organs too. Looking forward to seeing this vision translated to clinic in 15-ish years 💪🤞
Today's electrodes used to interface with the nervous system are tools of the past with fundamental limitations. Tissue reactions, invasive surgeries, limited scalability and resolution... A more natural way is to use biomolecules.
(Plus, proteins are super cool 🤓)
Follow the journey of your phone’s processor from the quartz crystal it started inside to the fully packaged chip in your #phone. Has your phone travelled more than you have? https://t.co/DKw9d10HkQ
Excited to share our perspective article, published in Pain Medicine Journal , showcasing how interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship can drive holistic solutions for patient care.

Einstein was wrong! Deadlines are the true time warpers, not traveling close to the speed of light. I worry though what this means for my biological clock.
Honored to have Dr. Robinson on campus. It was insightful to hear his thoughts on the future of neural interfaces, entrepreneurship, and his latest venture using brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to treat mood disorders. As he put it, 'What if medicine becomes technology?'
Thanks to Jia Liu for hosting a wonderful visit to Harvard SEAS. So great to be back on campus, and see the fascinating work in Allston. Also, shout out to the bright students who were kind enough to share some pizza and a selfie with me.
@zhipinghci A question for you: if a neural net is able to predict acceleration of a system from displacement values, do you think it has a concept of time?

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”
Congratulations to Gary Ruvkun, professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and an investigator at @MassGeneralNews, for winning the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine!
I love being a PhD student.
it feels like I’m expected to be miserable or overwhelmed.
but as a first-gen student, I’ve had to overcome a lot worse to get here.
to read and write and learn for a living feels like a gift that I hope I never take for granted, inshallah 🙏🏽
"While learning to be a researcher, I realized that the thing I found most exciting was to be able to ask questions of the world that if answered, would be true of everyone, everywhere."
