I think it's the cadence of how this evolved. You had a beta-driven run-up in June leading to a massive short squeeze in August, all of which were likely causing low nets tons of pain and frustration on long-biased side for underperforming the XBI. Without lining up PB exposure data, my guess is funds added risk to try and match pace.
So low net funds were de-grossing all the way through that (or blown out, the fast way to de-gross) while long-biased funds were potentially adding risk. Then beginning in mid-August through today, you saw a large sell-off of clinical stage companies relative to commercial stage, which is difficult to hedge if you use the XBI. So funds were now overexposed to clinical stage, hurting from the squeeze, and needed to de-risk longs. Mutual funds are nowhere to be found, since they are in tax loss harvesting season (their fiscal year ends in Oc), and so there was no buyer to step in when crowded longs got sold off. And now we have a head-fake single day squeeze up of XBI followed by a massive beta-driven sell-off.
tl;dr: funds got whipsawed hard
daytrade in $MAIR today, nice weakness after initial push, didn't roll over into the close though so cut all. Took a loss in $BMNR $ARCT yesterday, the latter is setting up well together w/ some other bios. $MRNA nice breakout on the 60min, pass for me though
$IOVA great end to the week, best short setup in a while. Left some money on the table with some early covers, should've just targeted hourly 20 w size (size could've been bigger to begin with). $HTFL also keeps doing its thing, still holding 80%+ of original size
$MRNA positive expectation breaker, was expecting something like a PB to 10 EMA on 5 min & build out a range.. AI drug disc. should eventually have its time under the sun... $TEM interesting, not the first time this has moved off of pure air, growth number dog$hit on it though
Small trade in $CDNL today, could've swung it but covered aggressively as entire mkt reached support, tried small follow through trade later without success. Also cut some small $HTFL @ 47, avg 38.44. Continues to be a good market for trading M/R and select catalyst plays
$REEMF been a while since we had some pink sheet action like this, too bad couldn't trade it. I'll never get tired of OTC reversals, 5R from 5 min ORLs in 15 minutes
yest was my first go at b/o trades in over a month and based on today's action the last one in a while... meanwhile $MDB worked well, out mid 440s yest. $AVAH was a dissapointment today, really looked like a homerun. $HTFL working well despite the mkt, as setups like this should
back from a break and right into some good action today. $HTFL 5* EP, year long IPO base & accelerating growth w/ a good guidance raise. Also tried some shorts - $P small loss, $MDB best setup in the sw group. Group looks like it needs a rest so will try to swing all
$CRWD trade of the day, solid setup but was kind of hesitant, fond memories of shorting lockout moves, especially in leading groups. Anticipated the first entry, once again not worth it. Solid move into the close -> swinging most, maybe sees low 200s. $PANW was also ok
Aside from cybersec/largecap sw some good and coherent action in the electronics/computer distribution group $AVT $ARW. $ANET not too far off either (aside obvious names $DELL $HPE). ERs for all this week, see if the acceleration can keep going
missed some action Friday due to travelling but still got something going. Shorted $AMD mid 512s, could've done 2x the size though... 6* setup on the daily. small daytrade in $WDC too. Some epic fades from ORLs in the names that bounced the hardest $BE $NBIS $MU
big leo out - question is what's next. Low of range prob set for many AI names but should take time before they can lead again as mkt punishes the slightest softness in guidance. Would love myself a hot bio mkt with microcaps running into data into YE but hopes rarely come true:)
As expected this bounce was a nothing burger what comes to trading opportunities. ofc in hindsight could've seen the higher lows in AH/PM and buy range breaks, see e.g. $SNDK over 1025s, but taking setups of this grade leads to a million paper cuts & eventually making losses back
zzzz action so far, volume is there but moves orderly&grindy. Felt like $UMC was going to be the best1 today w RS early session, chopped myself up trying to anticipate range break. Setups are once again in the hands of Koreans w $SKHY ER. Gap down tmrw = some 4.5* spots out there
Similar mean reversion play setting up in semis again, a strong wash right out of the open will probably be the only case in which I'll dip my toes in, but weak day today & gap down tmrw would set the stage for a bigger capitulation move $SOXL $SNDK $LITE $COHR $UMC $TTMI etcetc

There it is :D, as always I wish I wouldβve done more size & pyramided more aggressively, had some better exits etc but overall very happy that I remained open minded and took the opp. Traded $MRVL $ARM $WDC $STX, total risk was ~1% of total equity as planned. Executions below:
