Another historic step for justice for Ukraine 🇺🇦 under Malta’s Presidency of the @CoE 🇲🇹 as the Committee of Ministers today approved the draft Convention to establish the International Claims Commission for Ukraine.

Had a productive meeting with @SecScottBessent following the conclusion of the EU-US trade agreement. We also discussed opportunities with @SecretaryBurgum and @SecretaryWright to expand bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

As #MTCoE2025 President of the @coe Committee of Ministers, I had the honour of presiding over the signing of the Bilateral Agreement on the Establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, alongside @ZelenskyyUa and @alain_berset.

In recent days, a pediatrician who saved many lives lost 9 of her 10 children in Gaza. Her husband and surviving child are seriously injured.

The vessel Conscience, part of the Gaza Flotilla Movement and anchored just outside Maltese territorial waters since the beginning of the month, will soon be towed to a Mediterranean port. The 12 individuals on board will be repatriated by first being granted entry into Malta, from where they will board outbound flights.

This operation has been made possible through the coordination of @MFTMalta @chriscutajar with national security and transport authorities, along with the continuous support of @MFATurkiye. I extend my sincere thanks to @HakanFidan and his Ministry for their assistance throughout the process.

#Malta steps into this role with gratitude, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility, to protect the most vulnerable and uphold the values of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

We are ready to collaborate with all member states as we promote the key pillars of the #MTCoE2025 Presidency: enhancing the protection of children, combatting violence and discrimination, empowering youth, and safeguarding democracy and the rule of law, while furthering efforts to achieve justice and accountability for Ukraine.

Honoured to co-chair the inaugural session of the #Malta–#UAE Joint Commission in Abu Dhabi, alongside @mofauae Minister of State HE Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.

Building on 5 decades of diplomatic relations between our countries, as we extend collaborations in key areas, including trade, innovation, climate action, education, and health.

Today we laid the foundations for a stronger strategic partnership, one that advances the interests of our countries and our peoples, encouraging broader regional cooperation.

The next session of this Joint Commission will be hosted by @MFTmalta in #Malta.

زار معالي الدكتور إيان بورغ، نائب رئيس الوزراء، وزير الخارجية والسياحة في جمهورية مالطا، جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير، ترافقه سعادة ماريا كاميليري كاليا، سفير جمهورية مالطا لدى الدولة، والوفد المرافق، حيث تعرف معاليه والوفد المرافق على الدور المحوري للجامع في مد جسور التواصل الحضاري والتقارب بين مختلف ثقافات العالم، وما يتميز به عن غيره من دور العبادة، كما اطلعوا على ما يزخر به الجامع من جماليات وتفاصيل تعبر عن ثراء العمارة الإسلامية. وفي الختام تم إهداء ضيف الجامع نسخة من كتاب “جامع الشيخ زايد الكبير.. دفق السلام”.

Dr Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta, visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, accompanied by H.E. Maria Camilleri Calleja, Ambassador of Malta to the UAE, and the accompanying delegation. During the visit, Dr Borg and the delegation were introduced to the Mosque’s pivotal role in fostering intercultural dialogue and bridging civilisations, as well as its distinctive features that set it apart from other places of worship. They also explored the Mosque’s architectural splendour, reflecting the richness of Islamic art and design. At the end of the visit, the guest was presented with a copy of the book “Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: Lights of Peace.”

Productive meeting with #UAE Deputy PM @ABZayed in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪

In anticipation of the inaugural Malta-UAE Joint Commission, next week, we explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in key areas including healthcare, innovation, climate action, the maritime industry, tourism, and culture.

We also exchanged views on EU-Gulf and EU-UAE relations, as well as ongoing regional developments in the Middle East, North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa.

I look forward to co-chairing the Joint Commission alongside Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy, as we take meaningful steps toward enhanced collaboration between our two nations.
