@sharongregson @10aDayPlan What are your thoughts on point 171 which includes EAs as covering B&A school hours. There is no provincial wide framework for how to deliver seamless childcare. Very patchwork and doomed to fail as is.

Is this what happens when the govt imposes fee caps? A year ago one could find a job for higher pay. Govt looks great when families save money but it’s on the backs of providers and ECEs.

Update to ECE job search: $16-18/hr and only need an RA! A well known Non profit is only offering $19 (plus WE) but will be closer to min wage after union fees. Lawdy what’s happening to childcare?! @WormsAmanda @KirkpatrickWVC #childcarebc

@WormsAmanda This is why actual ECEs are burning out. There’s no one to cover them - ECEAs and RAs cannot do all jobs required by licensing. Again, throwing $ via WE doesn’t solve this problem either.

@WormsAmanda This is the core of the problem IMO. How did we go from an ECEA being someone who completed training and was working on their 500 hours to centres full of RAs and ECEAs w/only 1 course? This is why there’s no professionalism and we’re treated as being expendable

@A_heatley I feel like this proves 2 points. WE isn’t an incentive and many centres can save $$ by not hiring fully trained eces.

@WormsAmanda It was such an odd convo and makes me wonder if this is the opinion throughout the union.There are bad apples everywhere but I’d say there are better apples in the private sector.

One positive I will add is that we both agreed that the training for an EA is minimal. I educated her that the SN/ECE is more in depth than any EA training I received @EaWorking There needs to be a provincial cert program like ECE - no way around this.

Had an interesting Convo w/a union pres the other day. apparently eces in the private sector are working in abhorrent and unsafe conditions which can only be solved by becoming unionized. Moving to their plan it will also increase the jobs available @WormsAmanda @KatrinaCBurnaby

One last thing, there is no appetite for having ECEs actually working in the elementary level. The Kindy\ECE combo isn’t going to be entertained long term. Also According to this person, EAs are the only ones qualified to run B&A school care to fix the problem. Lawdy!
