“If the book has been good why has the internet been bad?” Social media is emotional, algorithms favour fighter-flight reactions & this ecosystem kills people. Invest in dispassionate algorithms to arm officials with accurate data @ssrc_org#MercuryProject#NobelPrizeSummit
Honoured to attend the #NobelPrizeSummit at the National Academies of Sciences in Washington. The truth, trust &hope session brilliantly engages discussion on building interdisciplinary collaboration in science to manage misinformation & disinformation. @ssrc_org#MercuryProject
On April 26, EGAP Methods & Training Co-Director @n_ichino & former Fellow @mamemorantasyll are speaking on a panel on local research partnerships for sustainable development. The panel is part of @USAID's Agency Learning & Evidence Month. Register here: https://t.co/joJfDhXKkX
(@PASGR_ , @EGAPTweets , @ssrc_org ).
The Côte d’Ivoire team will be led by @bricebado from @cerapabidjan and Yapo Félix Boa from the Université Félix Houphouët Boigny.
The Senegal team will be led by EGAP’s past global fellow, @mamemorantasyll at @UGBSN, and Samba cor Sarr from Senegal’s Ministry of Health.
@JPAL_Africa@esternk@fokodjo_aflagah We get aware of that quite late sometimes. Raising awareness amongst grads could make a significant difference for those who would like to pursue a researcher career.
@JPAL_Africa@esternk@fokodjo_aflagah Getting the chance to be involved in field research for the first time. In general, when you have not yet proved what you can provide to senior researchers, it is difficult to get their trust.
@JPAL_Africa@esternk@fokodjo_aflagah Language is also a barrier for French-speaking countries. Sisters and brothers from french-speaking countries need to address this challenge very soon. Most undergrad and grads in Senegal have great potential but lack language skills and (software skills also sometimes).
@JPAL_Africa@esternk@fokodjo_aflagah To have access to good courses, when you are in Senegal and Subsaharan Africa in General, it is important to register to the newsletters or social media pages of organizations that are proposing what you need such as @JPAL_Africa; @EGAPTweets@CEGA_UC@3ieNews etc.
@JPAL_Africa@esternk@fokodjo_aflagah Top of my list of strategies now to be successful is to seize every chance I have to be up to date on the new research tools and approaches of analysis existing. Keep learning is important even though access to good training can be challenging!
@JPAL_Africa@esternk Academics are not well connected to actors in the field in Senegal, especially students. I would recommend not being shy and starting e-mailing and visiting actors in the field. For me, better research ideas came from the exchange I have with them.
