@LiamTwose I want to be the studio that says "we decline awards" but that would be pretty arrogant considering we haven't been nominated for any
But I think we as an industry should begin to move away from ( ehh. SHUN! ) "awards"
We're not hollywood circle jerkers, and lets not forget it
@Olima would I be out-of-line to suggest that "Together" is going to be among the most important Verbs of gaming on Steam in the coming year?
So many popular games are "do XYZ but together with friends".
A total return to roots, in a way, to the console wars era!
@sylver_dev Did you find the onboarding process to Steam overwhelming as a new dev?
There are so many tiny steps. Did it give you a lot of friction or did you just grind thru all the admin?
@d_linkski Most people dream about big numbers because big money
@ManacasterBen dreams about big CCU because bigger numbers = more needs to optimize.
what good is gigascaling architecture w/o giga CCU? not much good'tall is it?
@CorpseKings bribe him with a share of the treasure he guards.
while he tries to mental math percentages to 3 decimal places ( taxes, vat, duties, levees, fees, fines, confiscations, etc , you know how it goes ) and gets confused
i stab him in the shins and steal the gold.
@88mmgames i thought that the game was called "Android Frontline: WW2 URSS Corps" and thought "that captain guy is mighty lifelike for an android"
its widely known that the devs of Manacaster are dumbbies tho.
@lumikxo@Kappische@geoffkeighley Yep, it seems they buy studios for the talent and tech.
My comment is now more about the frequency, and perhaps i under estimated it.
Is there a canonical list of their acquisitions?
@manacaster_game@Kappische@geoffkeighley A lot of the games that you would think of as "Valve" Games were developed by other studios that Valve bought out. Best examples are Portal and Left 4 Dead, but also Dota, Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat and some others.
The range of interperatations of "Often" are interesting here.
one guy was like "yeah they buy companes all the fuckin time mate. like once every few years"
compared to most tech companies, this feels small, not big..but maybe i'm the miscalibrated one?
@LordsGamingNet With respect, the Survivor-Like wave is four years deep. Yes that is "recent" compared to the Rogue-ish craze of 8 years ago.
The next big thing is genre mashups, more broadly.
cozy Roguelite bullet hell survivor
@mwmoedinger LED under/back lighting is one of those asymmetric things you designers pull off.
We muggles see it and think "Million Dollar Airbnb", but actually DIY It a few times and its kind of an obvious easy little hack.
This is why designers are pro.
Our support card mana system is one of the mechanics that separate our game from other CCGs.
Support cards generate mana and special player abilities, and as you choose them each turn, the support card “ranking” changes based on the number of times you’ve select them in total that game.
Only the top 3 ranked are usable, but since this ranking is ever changing, you can adjust your strategy from early to late game!
