World Environment Day at Manas NPTR🍀
Through awareness, plantation drives and collective action, we renewed our commitment to conserving biodiversity and safeguarding our natural heritage for future generations.
Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.
#nowforclimate
On #WorldEnvironmentDay, we celebrate India's rich natural heritage and reaffirm our commitment to conservation.
Home to over 70% of the world's wild tigers, India has emerged as a global leader in wildlife conservation through sustained efforts in habitat protection, species recovery, technology-driven monitoring, and community participation.
Tiger reserves not only secure the future of our national animal but also conserve critical ecosystems that support biodiversity, water security, carbon sequestration, and climate resilience.

Guided by the principle of ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’, we will continue working towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable planet through the spirit of Mission LiFE.
As we mark #EnvironmentDay today, let us renew our pledge to remain 'Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.'
Nature is our greatest ally in the fight against climate change. Every tree we plant, every ecosystem we restore, and every sustainable choice we make strengthens our collective future.
Let us work together to build a greener, cleaner and more resilient India for generations to come.
#NowForClimate
Over the last 12 years, under PM Shri @narendramodi ji's environmentally sensitive leadership, India has made great strides in wildlife conservation.
At a time the world is losing wildlife, India continues to ensure they thrive and prosper.

A century as far as Ramsar sites are concerned!
Glad that the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary (Surha Tal) in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh has been designated as India’s 100th Ramsar site. This wetland is rich in avifaunal biodiversity, attracting several migratory and resident birds.
India’s unwavering commitment to protecting our natural surroundings and wetlands in particular is clearly reflected in this feat.
Over the years, efforts to conserve and rejuvenate wetlands have been strengthened through greater community participation, science, innovation and awareness initiatives. These endeavours are helping preserve biodiversity, secure ecological balance and create a greener future for coming generations.
From classrooms to the wild, Assam’s next generation is becoming nature’s next guardians.
Guided by the vision of HCM Dr. @himantabiswa, the ‘Manas Mitra Programme’ connected 1,537 students with wildlife conservation awareness, while 150 students and 25 teachers experienced educational jungle safaris inside Manas National Park.
NEWS | #ManasNationalPark in Assam will remain closed for tourists from June 25 until further notice as authorities suspend all ecotourism activities ahead of the monsoon season.

More than 1,500 students from schools located around the fringes of the Manas National Park have been introduced to wildlife and ecological conservation through a series of awareness programmes organised by forest authorities.
The outreach activities were conducted under the “Manas Mitra Programme” (Friends of Manas), an initiative launched by the authorities of Manas National Park and the tiger reserve to strengthen community participation in conservation efforts.
Field Director C Ramesh said the programme was launched on November 14, 2024, at the Bansbari range on the occasion of Children’s Day, with a focus on engaging students and youth in environmental awareness activities.
“Since its launch, the programme has aimed at promoting understanding about the ecological importance of the Manas landscape and encouraging local communities to take part in wildlife conservation,” the Field Director was quoted by PTI.
As part of the initiative, nature orientation sessions have been organised since February this year in villages located around the reserve. The programme covered 22 schools and reached a total of 1,537 students.
The sessions highlighted the biodiversity and ecological significance of the tiger reserve while also creating awareness about wildlife protection and conservation. Students who participated in the programme were also given animal masks and customised pencils as souvenirs.

Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve has intensified its community outreach efforts through the Manas Mitra Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening ties between local communities and wildlife conservation through educational activities and nature-based experiences for students.
Launched on November 14, 2024, at the Bansbari Range on the occasion of Children’s Day, the “Manas Mitra Programme” — meaning “Friends of Manas” — seeks to promote conservation awareness among people living in fringe villages surrounding the reserve, with a special focus on students and youth.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to build grassroots support for conservation by involving younger generations and local stakeholders in preserving one of India’s most ecologically significant protected areas.

Located at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, ✨Manas Tiger Reserve✨ in Assam was first notified as a wildlife sanctuary in 1928, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1973, and later inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes its name from the Manas River (named after the Hindu snake god Manasa ), which flows from Bhutan into India, carving a landscape of floodplains, grasslands, and evergreen forests. Its forests range from tropical semi-evergreen and moist deciduous to riverine grasslands- habitats that sustain an astonishing diversity: tigers, elephants, rhinos, wild water buffalo, golden langurs, clouded leopards, and the world’s last remaining population of wild pygmy hogs. Manas is also a Biosphere Reserve, Elephant Reserve, and Important Bird Area. Beyond its natural splendour, Manas is home to the Bodo and other indigenous communities, whose songs, weaving, and forest traditions reflect an age-old harmony with the land.
