The first exchange of the year.

Today, we brought home another 157 Ukrainians – both military personnel and civilians. This was a long and demanding operation, and we achieved a worthy result. 139 of those released had been held in captivity since 2022.

Among the freed are 19 defenders who were illegally sentenced, 15 of them to life imprisonment.

Among the liberated are the defenders of Mariupol. These people endured extraordinarily harsh trials – yet they stood firm.

As early as today, they will be able to hear the voices of their relatives and hug their loved ones. Ahead lies recovery and rehabilitation.

We remember everyone who is still in captivity. Securing the release of all our citizens remains our unchanging priority in every negotiation.
I thank the team of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and all the involved agencies for their professional and challenging work.
Special gratitude to our partners in the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates for their crucial mediation and support.

We fight for our people. And we bring our people home. The work continues.
