The government should not take over parental decisions about what kind of phones or technology our kids have just to try and solve social media issues.

Banning smartphones for under 16s won’t solve anything apart from making our country sound like it’s turning into some sort of totalitarian state.

Why are some parties thinking it’s now an acceptable option for the government to take away parent’s rights to make decisions for their children?

Where has the expectation of parental responsibility gone?

Gemma McCaw, I was saddened to learn, is a member of the group B416, who are lobbying for govt intervention to help them keep their kids from the perceived evils of social media.

The wife of All Black legend Richie McCaw, Gemma has three young kids. She appeared on the Herald Now program with Ryan Bridge to discuss the ban Chris Luxon's govt is stubbornly insisting it will legislate.

Unexpectedly, Gemma seemed to make more of an argument against the ban than for it. She says that as her kids grow older, she will simply not be giving them a phone with internet access.

She also highlights that there are already software programs available to help parents keep undesirable stuff from their kids. (Safe Surfer).

Gemma's argument seems to suggest the answer to this problem lies with parents. As long as they have the parenting skills and the ability to make the right decisions regarding the welfare of their children.

If Gemma can do it why can't every other parent do the same?

“There is no one more experienced, no better operator who can pull levers than 81 year old Winston Peters”

Banks is dismayed at the wokeness of National and the wasted mandate they were given for change “Luxon cannot connect to middle NZ.. if they run on him and business as usual the centre right will lose”

Banks warns NZ that if TOP secure Mount Albert, or get over 5% we will get a govt worse than Ardern’s, and the only way around that happening is Winston Peters and NZ First “running laws, Tane Randall means NZ First is terribly attractive”

John explains that “Act have been drowned and Seymour should never have
taken deputy PM” so Act will not break double digits.

Banks also had Laws on his staff, and recounts how Laws was the hardest working and smartest guy he’s ever worked with “ You’d never find a guy with a higher constitution for work, 20 hours a day and that’s not an exaggeration”

“I’d be very pleased to have Winston Peters as PM” and as Banks says, NZFirst is the only party that can save the centre right coalition.

Amen, he’s always been an incredibly astute politician, and his insights in 2023 (attached quote tweets) has been proven to be completely accurate.
