What if the neutrinos we observe are actually massless particles, and the effect of neutrino mass that oscillation experiments see is just due to neutrinos scattering off dark matter? A question I try to address here with Alexei Smirnov.

Hon’ble Union Minister @DrJitendraSingh visited the #ESTIC2025 innovation showcase, interacting with startups & encouraging young innovators. With #RDIF boosting private participation, the path to #AtmanirbharBharat grows stronger—driving innovation towards #ViksitBharat2047.
By fostering collaboration across disciplines, ESTIC celebrates transformative ideas shaping the future of science, technology, and innovation in India. The Conclave runs from 3rd to 5th November 2025.
Keep watching this space for updates and reflections from ESTIC-2025.
ESTIC-2025 begins today. India’s flagship platform bringing together ministries, researchers, and innovators to advance the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
As a nominated Young Science & Technology Leader, I’m excited to be part of ESTIC-2025.

Feels great to have received the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant from @anrf_india! I would like to thank all my mentors, and collaborators for their invaluable support.
Hope to do some exciting science with this added incentive 😉. @iitbombay#EarlyCareerScientist
Interesting week for neutrino enthusiasts! 😃
The KM3Net collaboration reports the detection of a muon with an estimated energy of around 120 PeV (although the error bar is fairly large) !

This, if confirmed, will be exciting 🙂
-- On February 6, 2025, something unprecedented occurred: a gravitational wave signal that was accompanied by the arrival of neutrinos.
This could turn out to be the most important gravitational wave event ever seen.
Did LIGO just see its most important gravitational wave ever?
On February 6, 2025, LIGO saw a gravitational wave event that must've involved a neutron star.
IceCube saw a neutrino arriving from the place, simultaneously.
What could that mean?

This is precisely the effect that gets imprinted on the DSNB. With sufficient experimental precision and handle on the astro uncertainties, one can actually probe this directly. This remains the only way to test such cases in the near future 🙂.

Suppose the nu mass-orderings were actually smaller/different in the past. This scenario receives encouragement from the recent DESI survey. Can this be tested? @yuberfpg and I claim that an observation of the DSNB can do exactly that! 🙂
This can lead to scenarios where the MSW resonance takes place for either nus or antinus, depending on the sign of the mass-squared difference in the past. Furthermore, smaller mass-squared difference can lead to the resonance being crossed non-adiabatically!
Attending the XXVI DAE-BRNS HEP symposium at the amazing Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Good to see our results on pseudo-Dirac neutrinos being advertised in the plenary session 😃 @yuberfpg .
A huge and irreparable loss for the Physics community. I have been fortunate enough to learn from her during the various occasions that we met. Gone too soon.
We are saddened to share the passing of Padma Shri Prof. Rohini Godbole. A renowned scientist, leader, mentor, and champion for women in science. A memorial service will be held today at 4 PM in the Physical Sciences Auditorium.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Ratan Tata. The nation has lost one of its most inspirational figures. @TIFRScience is deeply indebted to him for being a major guiding force to the institute and for his unwavering support over the decades.
We will miss you Mr. Tata.
In Otranto for the next few days, attending this amazing workshop.
Always in awe of how the organisation does such a perfect job of getting everything right - breathtaking location, delightful food, and of course, fantastic talks 😉
