@myfairjulia @MattGambell Relayers can abstract away gas payments from the users perspective and allow a game or Dapp to cover them, which is a trivial cost with the low gas fees of L2s.
In addition, alternative L1s like Solana have extremely low gas fees and are scalable 'out of the box'
@myfairjulia @MattGambell Sure!
L2s are networks built on top of platforms like ETH that are able reduce gas costs/carbon output by 1000x by batching transactions.
These use novel cryptographic techniques like zero knowledge rollups and because of that have only barely reached production
@dragosilinca@jacksondame Yeah the flipside of that is that the merchant has to pay 2-3% fees the credit card companies for that, something which is brutal for your average SMBs with thin profit margins
@0xShabow @cobie The gamers don't understand how little developers themselves make off of that $60 traditional games model.
Devs will adopt NFTs to get their fair share and the purists will come around after it empowers great new games with no publisher/app store middleman taking a cut
@QwQiao They have been attempting to break into payments for a literal decade without any uptake.
Novi and Libra have essentially zero organic interest and less adoption than literal scam coins and projects made by high schoolers
FB is and will continue to be irrelevant
@ncweaver ZK-rollups (production ready as of this month) increase scalability by 100x
ETH 2.0 (live on mainnet in next 6 monts) will increase it by an additional ~3000x
So you're looking at an imminent 300,000x in efficiency soon.
@AnthonyLeeZhang Right now Web3 games are Zynga-style grindfest with P2E shoehorned in
We're focused on using low-level Web3 integration with Unreal to 'find the fun' with novel game formats and mechanics that were never possible before.
Games that use Web3 to be more fun, even for nocoiners
@GeekLock@rashmancrypto@firstadopter@ballmatthew That's not a function of GPU bottlenecking though and is instead a clever netcode technique that manages network replication on a scale that would crash any other application
@rex_woodbury They've been available via WetaM cloud offering but are essentially internal tools and Maya plugins specific to Weta's pipeline.
Weta alums I know have been skeptical that they'll be useful to 3rd parties in current form so will be interesting to how Unity makes them accessible
@ballmatthew A large amount of harassment in social media comes from sockpuppet accounts and I think games do a better job at making this difficult, especially if they have a component of persistent identity
Programmatic anti-cheat software is also much more mature than what social media has
