For me, it all began in Ahmedabad during the 2011 WC QF against Australia, where I saw him live for the first time. Among the limelight on Yuvi, Sachin and others, a young Ashwin silently stepped up, breaking the Watson-Haddin partnership with the new ball under pressure. Watching him live that day as an off-spinner myself, I became his fan forever. Playing in the shadows of Harbhajan, he delivered when MSD trusted him. That phase shaped Ashwin’s rise, and since then, there’s been no looking back.

From being the fastest bowler to 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, and 500 Test wickets 🏏, to his 37 five-wicket hauls (only behind Murali & Warne), Ashwin leaves as India’s 2nd highest wicket-taker in Tests & 7th highest in the world. Add his 6 international test hundreds and countless rescue acts with the bat & match winners with the ball , Ashwin truly redefined the role of an all-rounder.

A legend who inspired generations with his craft, grit, and constant evolution. We’ll cherish every memory he’s given us.

I truly believe he would have played a crucial role in the MCG and SCG tests in this series. A fitting farewell at SCG would have been poetic 💔

Indian cricket said goodbye to its greatest player in 2013 (SRT), its greatest captain in 2020 (MSD), and today, in 2024, we say goodbye to its greatest Test match winner. R ASHWIN.
