Because each time he invests the market falls (that year).

But long-term compounding of the market turns Rs 35 lakh into just over Rs 3 crore.

That's a 10.5% return. For the worst-timed investment.

Every 2-3 years, you have a different mutual fund house in limelight. During 2015-16 period, Aditya Birla was leading the race. Then 2018-19 witnessed rise of Axis mutual funds. During COVID, Quant became the favourite of every investor. Since last year, its been motilal oswal. Interestingly, each one of them underperformed after a phase of outperformance. And majority of retail investors ended up with even below benchmark return.

The only lesson is to stop chasing mutual funds with highest returns in last 1-2 yrs. Bec it won't end well.

Invest in mutual funds that have fund managers with solid track record of 10-20 years. Yes, its not easy but that's the most sustainable way to invest in mutual funds. Otherwise your portfolio will end up underperforming over the long term.
