I just encountered a new fraud involving a fake Mahanagar Gas WhatsApp message claiming that my gas connection would be disconnected due to an unpaid bill.

The message appeared to come from a “business account,” but the number was newly registered. When I checked my bank records and the official MGL portal, the current bill status showed “no data.” Still, assuming the automatic payment might have failed, I manually paid the bill to be safe.

After that, I called the number in the message. The person falsely claimed to be from Mahanagar Gas and insisted I just needed to “update” my details, I mean I made payment that should be it, I called just to inform him.

He said he would send a link on WhatsApp.
I did not receive it initially, so he sent me again from another number and resent two files, instructing me to click and update my information.

Both files were .apk (Android application) files , a clear sign of malware. Being tech-savvy, I immediately confronted him. The caller abruptly disconnected, and the files were quickly deleted from the WhatsApp chat.

This is a fraud attempt.

⚠️ Important Warning
Never download or click on any .apk files sent via WhatsApp or unknown numbers.

Always check the sender’s WhatsApp registration date scammers typically use freshly created numbers.

Verify bill status only through official websites or apps, not through unsolicited messages or calls.

Legitimate utilities never ask you to install apps from unknown links.

this is our national highway
where vehicles must b able move at 80 to 100km speed
but it's crawling at just 6 to 7km speed
& it takes 2 hrs to cover just 4km at usual time NH48 towards Mumbai

& Still they collect toll fees!
